this might get ugly
just got a 2000 4runner 2 days ago. twice, when completely stopped at red lights, all of a sudden the engine just shuts off. the radio stays on, lights etc, but nothing from the engine and you have to turn the key off then on and restart it. this is very nice in my 2 day old car that i was so excited to get. this seems like it is going to be a *major* problem. any ideas? i am bringing it to my dealer next week but has anyone ever heard of this? thanks

I had a similar problem with a '92 Camry I used to have. It didn't happen all the time, only after taking a long trip. It would happen after coming to a stop after getting off the freeway. I was told it was a solenoid on the throttle linkage. I sold the car before I ever got around to fixing it. It didn't happen enough to really worry about too much.
I wonder why the previous owner sold your 4-Runner?
