Lightbulb 97 AstroAlternator

Got a 1997 astro with 117K miles. Just threw the serpentine belt, so replaced it and the tensioner. Good idea to carry a 3/8 ratchet and a new belt. When it goes, you loose everything.

Guess my bearing in the alternator is going. The alternator use to show 14 volts and now is lucky to sho 12 vdc. Anyone know the best replacement or place for repair parts...Diode bearing etc.

Thanks.
I do a lot of interstate travel with mine and love it.

Looks like the regulator on the alternator is going south. Replace the alternator with an AC Delco rebuilt. Havn't had any problems with them yet. Good Luck.

Your best bet for longevity would be a Napa or Carquest rebuilt unit. Autozone and such places carry less quality parts.

I ordered a New Diode Rectifier, from Quality Re-Builders. for 9 dollars for the cs130-D which is about the Normal stock for Astro van in the mid 90's Shipping Make Sure USPS.... and then solder them in yourself....VERY EASY repair.... and original set of New DelCo Diodes...
If you need Brushes, or the Regulator... they have them too...

This Site, has a complete manual on the Alternator Specs, and how to Test the Diodes, with a Simple Multimeter , and other procedures >>>

i just picked up a duralast rebuilt at auto zone for 100 bucks for my 95 today. this morning i noticed my blinker was blinking really slow...figured the blinker unit was sticking because of the cold...then i noticed the volt meter and the idiot light...luckily i was close to home and got it home. havent put the alternator in yet (too cold tonight and it got dark by the time i got home with the part) give it a shot tomorow
good luck
