Exclamation some questions, please help!

my parents just bought me a 1999 cavalier, its in excellent condition, the only 2 things we are really concerned about, is well the AC doesnt work, and we think its the compressor because it doesnt kick in, but thats a minor problem, the dealership said they woould fix that free of charge.. the other major problem is that i was checking out the temperature gauge and its a little tiny bit more than half, i dont know if i should be worried or not, we havent registerd the car yet because we are waiting on the insurance company, but we turned it on in the driveway and we accelerated it a little and it started heating up what could be the problem? should i be worried at all? i mean it is summer and its been quite hot here in new jersey, but my moms car a toyota the temp stays a little less than half, please help! this is my first car i want to know if i should be really worried or not. please advise.. when i get the chance ill take a picture of the gauge... also does anyone know where i can find a vent for the ac, cause one is missing, i went to pepboys they said id have to go to the dealer for that

for the air vents just go to a junkyard. there should be tons of smashed up cavaliers there. Just pop them out of there, pay like 5 or 10 bux for it, and then pop it in your car.

Pop the hood up. Start the car and let it run. When the coolant gauge gets to the half way mark, watch the radiator fan. It should come on just past the half way mark. If it does, you are okay. If it goes up to the red mark, get it taken care of. Vents are dealer items only but you can pick one up from auto recyclers. Enjoy the car.

AC compressors are not a minor thing, just call the dealer and ask the price of a new one!!!

That's correct. The pump will not run if the freon is low.

Its still not a minor thing but something that needs to be fixed regardless of who is paying.
