Hello,
Thanks in advance to all those who help me out. I am posting as a favour for a friend. He has a 1988 Acura V6 24V. His car has had alot of problems starting. It turns over just fine but will not start. Then other times it starts right up. I told him it could possibly be either his fuel train heading to his throttle body/injectors, his ignition coil or possibly his fuel pump. I wasn't sure. So he took it into the Acura dealer here in town and they told him it was the computer. $650 later, it is STILL doing it. He has asked the dealer for the old computer back but no luck yet, they keep giving him the run around. I think he has been scammed personally but does anyone have an idea why his car would be doing this? What do you think the cause would be? Cheers!!

I may have help
I had the same car, an 88' legend v6. ran great for me, THEN starting doing the Exact same thing. First a shop replaced my distributor, worked for about a week, then quit. Then another shop replaced my ignition coil, ran for about a week, then quit. I finally bit the bullet and took it to an acura dealer. They told me my cadillac converter was plugged. If your car is like any other early legend, it probaly has a shitload of rust, so don't spend too much $. I had to junk mine, but if you're against that, you must take it to an acura dealer, it seems like everyone else doesn't know shit. hope this helps.

a fairly inexspensive ($65 us) and relatively easy part to try replacing is the main fuel relay. It should be located above the steering column under the dash. If you want to try this fix make sure you buy one from Acura. As with most aftermarket Honda/Acura replacement electronics, the ones you buy at a local parts store are usually junk.

Hey,
Get that computer back if the problem wasnt fixed. Not nice when they are guessing with his money. Either an Igniter , (no spark) or possibly the main relay. (no spark and/or no fuel) Thing to check for is if there is spark and or fuel when cranking during the no start condition. Also note the temperature during no starts, ie: hot? Anyhoo, Good luck & let me know. CB Automotive Tech |
