car keeps shutting off

I have a 97 maxima se stick and I accidentally over revved the engine. The car had to have the fuel pump replaced and now cuts off when I am slowing down in 1st gear but otherwise drives pretty normal. The mechanic doesnt think its the engine because he cant find anything wrong wit it. Does anybody have any ideas what could be causing this.

i had the same problem in a truck i used to drive, it turned out to be dirty throttle plates, and fuel injectors.
