Exclamation 5th gen engine in 4th gen

i got an interesting idea,

i am wondering if it is possible to convert a late 4th gen engine 97-99, into an engine like 00-01,. both of them are 3.0L, and both look similar, if not the same from the engine bay view.

Is there just some parts to replace....because an engine swap is pointless for some more hp 190(4th gen)-222(early 5th).

get a variable intake manifold(mevi) and a variable muffler from a stock 5th gen and that's pretty much all the difference. try putting a 3.5 in a 4th gen. that'd be a bullet.

I'd rather see a 6th gen in there since the 5th was over rated a little in the hp.

Which one are you talking about for the 5th gens? Are you talking the 2k/2k1 or the 2k2/2k3 engine?

The 2k2/2k3 engine has been reported to be overrated, not the 2k/2k1.

cams

just read from http://www.nissanperformancemag.com/...y03/ask_sarah/
that the early 5th gen (00-01) also has a more agressive cam profile than the 4th gen.

anyone actually thinks its worth it trying to convert a 4th gen into an early 5th gen?

There's a guy on here that is currently putting a VQ35 engine into a 4th-gen. Anybody remember him?

yeah, overrated in HP, but underrated in TQ, which is perfectly fine by me

the 5th gen 3.0l engine is dubbed the VQ30DE-k which does have more power than the 4th gen 3.0l, dubbed the VQ30DE. The 'k' series not only has a Variable Intake, but it also has a slightly more agressive cam profile, and the ECU is programmed differently.

it is very possiable to do, infact I was going to do it with a 4th gen I was looking at, however I bought my 3rd gen instead, as its easier to swap trannys than engines, and its much more cost effective, and I didnt want to go indebt.

Can I put a Fifth Gen (2000-2001/3.0) engine in my fourth Gen?

No…. Well Maybe, but why? The fifth Gen engine is the same basic design as the fourth gen engine. It is rated at 222 HP compared with the fourth gens 190, but makes basically the same power until after 5000 RPM. Some of this increase comes from slightly improved exhaust, if you put an aftermarket exhaust on your car it will be much better than the fifth gen exhaust. The Majority of the gains come from the intake manifold. The fifth Gen intake manifold is a dual runner design, it switches to shorter runners above 5000 Rpm for improved high RPM power. In the fourth Gen power drops off quickly after about 5500 RPM due to the long intake runners. Any engine swap on a Nissan is going to be a huge undertaking and very expensive, It would be much more cost effective to Mod or Boost your 4th Gen. No one that I know of has done an engine swap yet. If for some reason you still want to attempt this – Search, there are about 2.5 Bazillion threads on this.

Here is a comparison of 4th vs 5th gen engines courtesy of Stevtec, as you can see there is no major power increase until after 5000 RPM.

How about a fifth Gen intake manifold?

Maybe, but why? There is now a fourth gen Variable intake Manifold available. It is not a true dual runner design like the fifth gen and will not give your engine the same increase over 5000 RPM that a fifth gen has, but it still is a great improvement over the stock intake manifold. Putting a fifth gen intake manifold on a fourth gen would probably involve replacing everything from the top of the head up, a huge undertaking. There are many threads on this but this one seems to cover most of the problems with this.

Can I put the fifth Gen 3.5 engine in my fourth Gen?
This would be a huge and very expensive undertaking for many reasons. It would be much cheaper to turbocharge or supercharge your 3.0 engine. There are many threads on this, Search. Here are a couple to get you started –

Well yes this is all true but you also forgot that the 5th gen 3.0 also had a more agressive ECU system.
