Oh please. The only thing RR got out of the deal was a better engine and some Bosch electronics. BMW made the X5, and it's a sad excuse for an SUV. 18 inch rims? It's a friggin tall station wagon.

Please do not speak of what you do not know....

The Range Rover at top was about 33000 new. and they can be bought for 2-8000, and are one of the most capable, upgradable 4x4s out there.

cars need power, trucks need torque. the Range Rover has plenty of that. It also has traction control, so all the power in the world won't get you up that hill that the plush RR just crawled up.

They are most impressive.

A samari with huge tires and a stock engine will handle off road. I am talking about once you are on the real road, like in day to day driving. Then more power would be nice.

a brand new Range Rover is around $70,000

last year i'd say it's the best SUV out there, but with the X5 here, it's tough to say

and matt only like 6% of all SUV owners take their SUVs off-road, so you don't have to be an ass about anything, people can have their opinions

The X5 (without sport package) is probably the best on-road, but for on-road and off road, or just plain old-world luxury, its gotta be the Range Rover.

My warnings

As a current Defender 90 owner and past RR owner I feel i must warn you about these cars. Land Rover is a neat car company but has many flaws. The Range Rover is a pretty attractive vehicle and has a lot of appeal to it. This is why I bought a 4.0 in 1996. The interior is pretty impressive and the car can really go off road. The fun stops here.

My car had tons and tons of problems and was in the shop all the time. I ended up keeping it for about 19 months when i just decided to forget it and traded for a Defender and cash. If you are considering the purchase of a Rover I would suggest buying a Defender because it seems to be pretty reliable. Nothing like having to pull over in the interstate in a one year old 70K car because its smoking like crazy or the air suspension is malfunctioning. I drive BMWs now and have never had a single car problem since selling the Range Rover BTW my Rover had depreciated to around 44K in the 19 months I owned it and 31000 miles I put on it. My brother's Ford Explorer was bought new for about 34K and is today worth 17K, going on 5 years old. You tell me the difference.

If youve got the money and want a Range Rover I suggest you wait another few months and buy one of the all new ones coming out this year. They are very sharp and the dealer is calling me when they get one in.

You probably got a lemon. ANd the engine should have been fine, its been used in so many applications, and has proven itself constantly.

In case you haven't noticed, Land Rover puts out many more "lemons" than other companies do. In addition, they don't extend themselves when someone purchases a lemon I.E. "Good luck with your new Rover, we can't help you" My dealer was gracious enough to offer me 44 thousand for that "fruit" I paid something like 68K for. Therefore my total cost of ownershit was 26540 for the 19 months i was priveledged to drive it.

Buyer Beware

i have a 2002 Range Rover HSE. It may depreciate fast but its an eye catcher. If you have the money go for it, if not buy a yugo. It has exceptional offroad abilities that no other suv can match with a descent onroad ride. The new 2003 looks pretty impressive but they have F***** the looks, the stupid vents on the side and the round lights at the back, wut up with that? The vents are there for a purpose but they could at least be color coordinated to the car itself. Well w'ell see next year if discovery will finally get a major facelift after all these years.
Range Rover is the luxury suv out there. FORGET lexus, mercedes, bmw and all those other imitations out there.
