Mobile Mechanic
Hi,
I had a mobile mechanic come over and check out my car to see why it doesnt run. The first thing he did was get my spark plug wires in the correct firing order so it almost started. Then he said he was gonna bypass the fuel injection system by squirting starter fluid in the intake manifold. He did that and it almsot started by didnt. So we took the spark plugs out and they were covered in fuel and dark black. We then put new spark plugs in and fired it up. Once again it almost started but couldnt. Just coughs and sputters. We checked the new spark plugs we just put in after cranking it awhile. They were dark black like the other ones and covered in fuel. Could it be how I wied the ECU? I moved pin B2 to pin B10 so its correct. If I didnt have B2 correctly seated in B10 what would happen? Im pretty sure I do. He said that I have to buy new spark plugs and leave them out along with the wires. he said let it dry out the excess fuel in the cylinders. We cranked it without the spark plugs in and white smoke was coming out. So there must still be fuel in there. So I have to let it dry out overnight then put my new spark plugs in. He said it may start then. I have a strong feeling it may be my MPFI wiring but Im pretty sure I wired it correctly. I checked it over and over again to be sure. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks

Oh, I forgot to tell you the mechanic said that the intake manifold is blowing out instead of sucking air in. He said that is one of the reasons it wont start even when sparying starter fluid in there.

I have never heard of the intake blowing out air instead of sucking it in. I'd check over your wiring, I wonder if you did it backwards would the engine work the other way? I don't think so. Only thing you could screw up is when the fuel injector shoots the fuel.

It might be the distributor. Did the mechanic check it?
When mine had that problem that it wanted to start but it didn't turned out to be the distributor was bad and had to replace it. |

I dont think i wired it wrong.
Could the ECU be wrong? If i didnt move pin B2 to B10 spot what would happen? I dont think its the distributer because all spark plug wires had spark comnig out of them? What kinda starting problem did you have that it wouldnt start and had to be replaced? Was it a cough and sputter sound like its on the verge of starting? Thanks

aight the only way you would blow out of the intake is if your cam was off by 180 degrees (of if the valves weren't sealing) and that mean that the exhaust is sucking in.... and the likely hood of that even being possible is slim to none, if the engine was running before you tired the conversion its probably a problem within your work...

Sounds like your cam timing is off 180 degrees. Check your cams and crankshaft.

Maybe he put the distributor back on backwards. Cuz you know how theres two prongs on the distributor that go into the cam? maybe he inserted it the wrong way which would make it exactly 180º off.

it can only be inserted one way the prongs are two diff. sizes....
