Angry B16A or B16A2 ??? Confused... Help!

Just bought a 95 Acura Integra with a 2nd generation b16a motor ( SiR ). So he says... I'm confused.... I know that a 1st gen b16a is only compatible with a cable clutch and a b16a2 hydraulic. BUT.... the slave cylinder is there, supporting the b16a2 ( 2nd gen ) possibility.... BUT... the motor has b16a stamped on it with psr-2 stamped on the head... Making the head a 2nd gen and the motor a 1st gen ?????? Am I crazy ?Makes no sense... Can someone make something outta this mess ? I'd appreciate the help. Sure would like to know what the deal is....

It' probably a JDM B16A. The JDM B16A's only have B16A stamped on it. Not B16A, B16A2, etc. Thats why sometimes it's hard to tell if you are getting the first gen one or the 2nd gen one with 10 hp more. Some dishonest ppl use this to there advantage to sell unsuspecting ppl the slightyl less power'd first one. But the reason that yours says B16A instead of B16A2 or B16A3 is that is is most likely a JDM motor, no a USDM De Sol or SI motor. You said it's a SiR motor, so that would be JDM.

The JDM's work on a different wave length, I know...This motor is indeed a JDM 2nd gen motor... The head is a psr-2 and it's a hydraulic clutch. A gen 1 is 86-89, cable only, not compatible with a b16a2 ( 2nd gen ) motor. I guess I answered it myself.

hey man, an hydro tranny doesn't mean that your engine is 1st or 2nd because you can easily use an hydro on a 1st gen b16 so, the best tip is to check the engine serial number, if your engines starts with 54 (it means the 5.4 million) your engine is for sure a 2nd gen one.

Wow, you learn something new everyday... Thanks for the advice, but where do you find this 54....

Also, the head is a 2nd gen for sure ( psr-2 ) and a guy from a place that sells jdm motors said that a hydraulic clutch / tranny isn t compatable with the 1st gen jdm b16a because it is only equipped for a cable clutch connection... ( Hydraulic clutches didn t even exist back then ). The tranny is also a YS1... Apparently, that isn t compatable either with 1st gen b16a...Either or, i'm still confused !!!!

the engine serial number is below where "B16A" is written on your block, a friend of mine has a 1st gen B16A with an hydro tranny, but this is important, the car he has is a civic EK Hatch that uses hydraulic operated clutch, I think that cable operated clutches w/hydro trannies might be not compatible (but I'm not 100% sure, I'll check it later) but in my case I have an EK coupe and a B16A w/cable tranny S1 and all I did is a little trick with the secondary hydro clutch pump and I'm using it everyday....I hope it clears your mind.

Nope, it's possible to mate a cable tranny to a hyrdo clutch as well as a hyrdo tranny to a cable clutch. Hasport makes conversion kits for both ways, so either one is possible.
(Honda Tuning June 2003, pgs 60-71, "Going Hydro."; Honda Tuning June 2003 pg 68 "Swinging Both Ways"). Hasport's EKCC (96-00 civic) Kit (cable-hydro) approx. $225, the EFBHY is approx $275. The 92-95 has a slightly diff kit, I only have the name included with hasports engine mounts, it's EGB1 (mounts + cable-hydro kit). Thats $499, so it should be only about $225 or so also for just the tranny kit.
