security light problem

Hello, My 93' buick lesabre doesn't start all the time. Whenever the problem occurs, the security light comes on,and I have to wait until the security light goes away, before I can try to start it again and sometimes that doesn't work. I had someone bypass my security system to start the car, because they said that might work. But it did'nt. I'll have to unhook my positive battery cable to try and start it again, and that doesn't work all the time. I'm hoping you can help me, because I've taken it to 4 shops and they could'nt diagnos the problem, because the car seems to start up everytime they have it, and they tell me in order for them to fix the problem, the car has to not start while it's there. This has been a problem for me over a year now and it's driving me crazy.

Read the topic in Park Ave. There is no difference in a Park Ave and Lesabre in the operation on the security system. When you are having this problem try doing it in different titl wheel positions. It might work on one position and not the others.

There should be some codes stored in the computer as to what is causing the problem. Most likely you have a bad key cylinder on the column.

I had that problem last night on my 92 LeSabre and had to have the cat towed home. I do not get a security light but I do get CODE 58. The car turns over but never starts. At first start it sputters and then dies. I am currently doing tests according to the factory service manual.

Just a little update on my progress. I found out that my resistor and key slot are working ok. If there was a problem with them, my car would not start at all. So I have narrowed it down to the VATS Fuel enable wire to the PCM. The VATS sends a variable voltage to the pcm when the correct key is inserted. Replicating the voltage variance is almost impossible without a small external made circuit.

My problem is that I want to check the wire which is dark blue, from the VATS to the pcm for a bad connection. But, I don't know where exactly the VATS module is on my 92. I can get to the pcm, so that side is ok. I'd like to know if I take the glove box out, will I be able to see the connector. From what I gather, the VATS is behind the dash on the firewall.

Well, I need the car running! So I have come up across a chip that will produce just about the exact same signal. I'll be building it today and hope all goes well.

I built the circuit and no go. So I got another Pass-Key II module and still nothing. I verified that no wires were broken or shorted. I even changed the computer abd still the code 58.

I guess it's time to send the car to the garage...
