Keyless Entry

I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 series truck and I wanted to get some additional Keyless remotes for it, but I could only find a remote for a 2002 truck on Ebay. I bought them and I tried to do the standard process for programing it and it does not work. I already changed the battery in the remote. Are the keyless remotes for a 2001 and 2002 truck programed differntly? Do I have to use one for a 2001?

Thanks,
Cory

The 01 and 02 may have different part number remotes...check the back of your remote..the part number is there

KEYLESS ENTRY

Yes they have different part#'s. I take it this means you can't use one for the other.

That is correct...you will need the part number transmitter that is specific for your application

Re: Keyless Entry

I have a 99 K3500 4dr. w/keyless entry. My door locks don't work in the cab and the remote only locks the drivers side doors. Is there a module or some thing that needs to be replaced, checked, or something? and where is it located? Appriciate any help.

you will need a wiring diagram to trace out the problem. if the remote locks the driver side doorS, then it may be bad door locking/unlocking actuatorS,...on the passsengerside.
this can be a long process to find the problem. did it occur at one point in time / or did this slowly get larger and spead to other doors ?

Re: Keyless Entry

I got the truck from my brother and he told me that the dealer said it might be a "body control module"? I don't know. I can lock and unlock the driver side doors with the keyless remote, but can't lock them with the switch on the door. I can however lock them and unlock them with the key lock and manually with the button. Could it be a switch, or a relay? I have checked fuses. I looked at the diagram in the haynes book I got for the truck it shows a relay, and a door lock control module, but it doesn't say where they are located.

could be the door switches. see if you can check this out with the meter and your wiring diagram. haynes manuals are not good.

internet manuals are available for your use to gather this info . cost is not much when compared to dealership guessing.

you could also go to the scrap yard if you find defective components. relays are usually in the fuse boxes. some times in the BCM. with the diagrams OEM type this is revealed.

I had a short circuit one time in this area. not easy to find, had to use magnifying glass. fuse kept blowing intermittently nasty / but I got it. took a long time.

Re: Keyless Entry

I just got done putting a trans back in my wifesw van. So I think this will be my next project. Is the BCM located in different places depending on the year make and model, or in the same general area?

I spent some time over the last few weeks tinkering here and there on the door locks. Worked on it a little today and you were right about the online help. Found a sight one week subscription helped quite a lot. Anyhow was wondering if the lock actuators could get week before they quit completely? My drivers side door locks work fine but the pass. side rear door is trying but acts like it doesn't have enough juice or something not quite enough to lock or unlock it. I am almost sure the pass. front door actuator is dead didn't get quite that far into it today though. And I am pretty sure I am going to have to get a new door switch since it does nothing at all. All of this with the key fob.
