Angry Carbon Build-Up

I have a 2003 Grand Cherokee with 12k miles on it. Within the first four months the "malfunction" light came on. We took it in and they said that we had carbon build-up, so they cleaned it. Well, the same thing has happened 2 more times, every other month. They have replaced the spark plugs, the fuel pump, and the head. The dealer says we are using bad gas. We have used additives at their suggestion and switched gas. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas what it could be?

I had a carbon build up. there is a trick to getting ride of it. take a good mist bottle and fill it with water. spray it into your throttle while the motor is hot and running. the water will turn to steam and clean out the carbon build up. You need to watch how much you do because it will sputter and spit. just do a little at a time and go through about 300 ml. then put in some fuel injecter cleaner and go for a drive. the part about bad gas is crap. not very likely. i use the cheapest gas i can find and have never had a problem.

ok, so the gas thing is crap. But should there be carbon build-up and "pitting" on the head within the first 12k miles?! The car is brand new. I should have posted on Grand Cherokee, posted here on accident. The service guys are telling me to change my driving habits??? I am at a loss, any one have any ideas what is really going on with my Jeep??

It is not likely that you have a bad carbon problem. It is possible though. I suggest that you get a second opinion. Maybe even a third. As far as getting rid of the carbon use the spray bottle way. I have only had to do it once on my jeep and it cleared up no problem. Get another shop to look at your jeep. I always call around or go to at least three shops for problems that i don't have a clue on. Also but the Haynes manuall. It has a tone of info in it on what causes problems and how to fix them.

Keep on Jeepin!
