:iceslolan Cruise 96 3.1 inhibit

On my 96 Lumina 3.1L I had this problem.

My fuel pump was going out, and did not put out the 80 PSI needed.

Also the service engine soon light came on due to a transmission shift problem.

With the Service Engine Soon lamp on, the cruise was inhibited.

Reset light with OBD II and then see if cruise works again,
check fuel pressure

On Board Diagnostics II ( or 2). I have model CP9135 from www.actron.com. Cars after 1886 have the standard ( Fed required) port to read and reset the MIL ( malfunction indication light) or DTC diagnostic Test Code.
On my lumnia the 16 pin test port is below the steering wheel on the lower trim.
in short, you plug in a hand held reader control box to find out what is going on inside the brain of your car
