Thumbs down Flooded spark plugs

I recently bought this g20 w/ 65000 miles and it ran fine all except for a low idle when stopping or turning. I replaced the fuel filter, air filter (K&N), oil filter, and oil. I also ran fuel injector cleaner through the gas tank. The engine was dirty too so i washed it off really good and made it shiny....oops. After driving about 25-35 miles after doing all this it started riding REALLY REALLY rough, no acceleration, and less than half the previous MPG. I assumed that the problem was because of the fuel injector cleaner (Wyyms cleaner) because the fuel filter was secure as well as the air filter. I had read that the injectors in this engine did not need injector cleaner unless necessary and I considered it very necessary considering my car was shutting off when the rpm's went low. It started getting really bad so I reset the ECU (disconnected battery for 1/2 hour) and that didnt fix anything so I broke down and took it to Dreyer & Reinbold Infiniti (Indianapolis, IN) who told me that the spark plugs had been flooded because I cleaned the engine!! They didnt charge me the $35 inspection fee, but wanted $220 to replace the plugs and wires!! that. The tech suggested covering the plugs with a shammy or something and using compressed air to blow out any water left in the cavities after detailing the engine. I am going to replace the plugs and wires myself (Bosch Platinum plugs) but did not know what wires would be good to use. I am planning on autocrossing with this car so what would some good wires be that are within a reasonable price.

the stock wires are supposedly better than any aftermarket for the SR20.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Dont buy Bosch plugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!
They suck @$$
I thought it was quite ridiculous when they told me that the first fix for my baby was some plugs! I looked and laughed at them. They then told me if they put the plugs in and I dont notice a diference they will pay for the plugs and it made a quite reasonable difference. I know that no other car company besides MB and BMW probably pay even close to that amount for a set of spark plugs but I'm telling you from experience that its true! They do work and the Bosch cant handle the heat that the NGK platinums do. I'm telling you ask anyone on the forum and they'll tell you Bosch suck! They are cheap but an ol' sayin always makes you see the light.

"You get what you pay for!"
Believe that!

You can get the NGK Platinums or the NGK Coppers. They both work great in the SR20's and are both listed as stock in your owners manual.

The platinums are PFR6B-11, 60,000 miles, and cost $35-$40 a set

The coppers are BKR6E, 15,000 miles, and cost $5-$8 a set

I opted for the coppers due to the price. if you get the coppers, make sure they are the exact part # above and not the BKR6E-11. Wrong gap for the coppers in the SR20's.

The factory wires cost around $40-$45 through the dealer.

Try to blow the water out with compressed air or suck it out with a wet vac. You should be ok.

Tell Dreyer & Reinbold to go %^& themselves. err! Uh! well! Yeah! $220 my ass!

I did the same thing russdye did ( Cleaned my engine). I noticed that the engine has been idling rough and that there is no acceleration but my MPG is up from before is this caused by the spark plugs also and is it bad to keep driving this way. Any help would be much appreciated.

i had bosch plugs in for around 8k miles. they were nice at first, but then i realized why everyone around here is against them. replaced them w/ ngk plats and love them. bosche plugs can lick my ass-get the ngks-no question.
i accidently got water in my wells and sucked it out w/ a wet/dry vac. i just put a little tube on the end, duck taped it shut and sucked. worked very well.

its not that hard to change spark plugs, kinda like taking out lug nuts. just make sure you torque it to specs. change the wire if its corroded.

torque the spark plugs. torque = amount of force/momentum. for example, 40-50 lbs of torque is need to torque the lug nuts on a car, dont know the specific of a G20, and usually 10-16 lbs for spark plugs, dont want to put 30 lbs of torque onto your spark plugs or bye bye . ya you need a torque wrench and a spark plug socket. its so you dont overtighten the spark plug and break it by tightening it too much. wire, i mean spark plug wires, just look at the end of the wire where the top of the spark plug goes into, if you see rust or corrosion, replace it, it might not be firing right (making enough spark = lose in power). dont worry, at one point, i never knew this stuff either

for the SR20, i believe the stock wires are better than any aftermarket. you mean NOLOGY? never heard of MGR. who knows, they might show some power gains, but id stick with stock.

Nology are the only aftermarket wires for the SR20 worth a rat. But they are not worth $200 unless you are laying down some serious turbo boost.

Stick with OEM.

All the other aftermarket wires are no better than OEM at best, and most are far worse.

Until you run a stupid fast turbo set-up (not even a mild DET), stick with all stock ignition. I've heard of people putting in NGK plugs and OEM wires with 100k miles on them, replace nearly new parts (non-NGK and non-OEM) and their driveablity and idle problems went away.

If that doesn't convince you to stick with NGK and OEM, then I have a Tornado to sell you.
