Ok, this is what happened, I added a 12" soloberic and a 800 watt koiller amp to my car. I also switched the head unit with a crappy one (Shatter), but it played mp3s and I thought it would be decent. Boy was I wrong...I ended up getting feedback from the engine every time I revved, not to mention, there was always a low hiss/humm even when the volume was at 0. The hiss/humm came from the fact that every bose system comes stock with individual amps on every speaker, but this crappy (Shatter) couldn't deal with it. I ended up getting a new Pioneer DEH-P6500 (Full color screen with animations, its tight heh ), and wa-lah, it solved all my problems: not only did it eliminate the engine feedback during revving (completely gone), it also got rid of the hiss/humming ... and my sound system sounded perfect. Now, in your case, from what I understand, you don't want to change your stock head unit, I did not think of trying that, simply because I had the Pioneer in mind from the start....but it should work. Anyways, good luck to you, let me know how it comes out...remember, don't go cheap on anything, I learned that with lots of annoying sounds. (I will upgrade the koiller later, but for now it was well worth the price)
