who all's experienced crankwalk

I was just wondering how many of you have had this problem with your 2nd gen GST/GSX or TSI/TSI AWD?

and is there anything you can do regularly to avoid this problem, like changing oil very frequently? I read an article about it long ago and remember a oil passage failing as a possible cause but dont remember 100%

also what kind of power do the stock internals handle?

Take it to a dealership, have them check if the recall was performed. If it needs to be fixed, they'll fix it. Otherwise, they won't. If you're paranoid, take it in every few months and have them check.

And, depending on engine condition, you should be able to break 400hp with the stock internals. This obviously takes upgrading practically everything else though.

Of course, if the engine is in bad shape, 400hp might fry the bejeezus out of it.

well, I just read ahuge article on it(still reading) and it sounds as if it is the 2 g oil squirters bleed off the oil pressure going to the main/thrust bearings cuz the squirters are little check valves that open @ about 25 psi, but when they are tested the springs had worn and some opend at only 14 psi(at idle), which doesnt let the mani/thrust bearings get enough oil and at idle when you sit thee with the cluthc in you got all the pressure plates force pushing against the crank wihtout proper lubrication to bearings is where the problem comes. and to my knowledge and the articles mitsubishi isnt doing anything about it. the way magnusmotorsports fixes it is to remachine the block to accept 1g oil squirters and block the galleries for the stock 2g squirters, and then the bearings are never starved for lubrication. so I guess no sitting at a light or in traffic with clutch in and if you could get a high volume oil pump that wouyld probably do something, but still worries me a bit much to get one when i wont have the cash to go fix it later on.

ok, well just finished and actually he now just ditches the squirter all together and will put in 1g squurters if requested though, and disconnect the clutch switch so you can start it without the clutch cuz of the larger galleries take longer to build pressure.

That article is probably the best to read on it, its long but has very good info on it.

Stock internals are good to handle quite a bit of HP, you'll be swapping turbos before internals.

I have no idea what recall MB38 was talking about, mabey the T/C recall?

well, but the TC couldnt cause crankwalk, and if I got one I was thinking of either the big16G or super 20G, but think im going honda again cuz the reason I want a 2G eclipse/talon is looks/performance

the integra has looks/reliability and mines gonna have performance.

The recall was covered in a Sport Compact Car a while back. I have it around here. When I find it, i'll tell you what i'm talking about.

DSMers have been petitioning and fighting for years to get Mitsu to take responibility and recal the crankwalked motors. It never has and never will happen...

Go to www.racingknowledge.com and look in the DSM section for a sticky on crankwalk. I get tired of typing it all out over and over after all these years
