98 Teg LS stock running 16s help!!!!

Hey I have a totally stock 98 Integra LS stock and the best time I am getting is 16.8 which is just stank even for a stock teg. Can someone help? I am very new to this stuff and I am trying hard to get better when it comes to racing and modding my car and any (and I do mean "ANY") help would be welcomed.

Don't feel bad my teg when it was stock had a best of 16.8@85 or so mph. I put a intake and exhaust on and it dropped it to 15.7 then I got some motor mount inserts, header and test pipe and it went 15.3. Then the nitrous and low 14's

Yup intake an exhaust are the usual first mods, they help a lot.

Well IMO it's not worth the 3 HP you're gonna get spending the extra 150 bucks on a cold air induction. But if you get AEM get the air-bypass valve so that when the filter gets wet it doesn't suck in water and hydrolock your engine.

intake and exhaust dropped you 1.1 seconds??

i had a 91 gs with intake and exhaust and i got 16.8 but my car was in dire need of oil change and a lot of tuneup... plus i was new to driving stick.

it was also at the sacramento raceway, which is infamous for shitty conditions

whats the difference between injen intakes and generic intakes off ebay. piping is same size.. i have a SRI and a CAI off ebay, CAI currently installed. the SRI intake has bigger piping diameter than my friends AEM SRI...

The major differences are the filter quality, and how easy they install. Like the pipe being prebent in a certain shape, it's not always a 100% easy swap in. You might have to push things out of the way to install a cheap intake. But performance wise the filter is the biggest problem.

Right now when I go to the track, I take the cover off of the air filter. Someone said that it would help. It makes the car noisy when I accelerate but other than that I havent noticed a big difference.

OH MY GOD DONT DO THAT SHIT LOL!!!! that is prolly one of the worst things u can do to your car...it makes maybe a 1/3hp difference and just in general is bad... can get dust and leaves and various other things into your engine that way. the stock airbox is extremely restricitve and prolly robs your car of more than 3mpg but keep it covered while u have it...

huh? hellof ppl i know take their cone filter off while racing the 1/4 mile then put it on right away afterwards.

lol i sold my old car to this idiot from school and he didnt like the stock intake (put stock intake back on before i sold it... took my short ram ) so he took it off. it was hella noisy... it was taking air from like the hottest part of the engine bay, behind the engine itself.
