Why bother with a KA or SR?!

power isnt the only thing.
there is weight ratio, and there is concern for what u wanna do with ur car. any type of course racing with lotta turns u should get a SR, although KA's fare pretty well sometimes. drag racing is vice versa of the course racing.

becuase there is a guy from 240forums.com with a LT1 in his S14 and he got his ass handed to him by a turbo charged v-tec prelude running 8 psi. they did it from a roll and the turbo prelude killed it by over 3 cars. the prelude wasn't even on his high boost setting. bottom line. V8 gets you monster torque. good for off the line jumps. turbos generally gives you better highend. so on the highway when your about to hit full spool, the turbo will take a v8.
edit: lookin at thsoe pictures, lolz thats exactly the same S14 that got beaten. i forgot which name he went under. but he was bragging about how fast he was. makin all sorts of bullshit storys like how he beat a viper and shit. so one guy in a turbo prelude just beat the shit out of him, and everyone called his bullshit storys. anyways, the LT1 is not that powerfull of an engine. they only made like 275ish. not impressed for a v8. and they can only rev to 5.5 -6K

SR20 > LT1
I hate when people drop american big blocks in Japanese cars...this isn't the "good ol days"...Japan has strong engines now and for the most part they are better to stick with than dropping crap in like an LT1. Don't LT1's cost a lot too? That Darius 240z (or maybe it's Darius' 240z...I'm not sure lol) seems pretty badass though and it has an LT1 in it right? I'm sure a few others have downloaded the series of car videos with that little Datsun with the huge v8 .

The Prelude hit it's scramble boost in the video, I was there and it was fairly obvious. The LT1 car started in the bottom of 2nd gear on a TH350 transmission with a 3200 rpm stall. If any of you have used this combo before you can imagine just how slow the car will react when it's not locked up. The run was fairly one sided and not as it seems. The prelude would not run from a stop for fear of the LT1 ass raping him.
BTW, for you doubters... the car ran a 9.81 @ 147 mph. I don't forsee the prelude running any faster than that. And yes, I helped build the LT1 car. Soon to come: - MTI 383 - Turbonetics T100 - 2 Spd. Powerglide - 7s or bust. |

9.8 nice!
I still would rather just get an rb25det. Sounds way better and would probly be able to pull the same numbers if it was modified a little.

good for you. i personally dislike drag racing immensly and see the mixture of american engines with Japanese cars as a touch of evil, but that's just me and my opinion. *shrugs*

fine how about an rb26dett with all the mods that the nismo 400r has to give it a 10k redline...then it would be faster than that little v8 :P...especially if you kept the 4wd tranny...1 more gear too
I know 9.8 isn't weak, but it's definitely possible with an rb25...large enough turbo, turbo boost and sticky enough wheels and it will do it...an rb26 with some work could easily kill it...

2. Redline does not necessarily dictate how fast a car is... see Honda 3. It's not that easy to just "keep the AWD tranny" you need the tranny, transfer case, front diff, front shafts, forward driveshaft, rear driveshaft, and to change the front end strut/coil setup to a double wishbone skyline GTR design with the hubs incorporating space for the front halfshafts. 4. For an RB25 to run a 9.8 your talking about SERIOUS modifications. Head work, cams, springs, solid lifters, 800+cc injectors, cryo-ed transmission gears or aftermarket replacement, built bottom end, balanced and blueprinted motor, rear differential upgrade, rear ring and pinion upgrade, standalone management, race gas, T67+ sized turbo, intercooler, custom piping, suspension mods, ETC ETC ETC and a serious driver. A damn 400+rwhp SR20 only runs a high 11-sec. quarter mile on drag radials. 9's aren't all about power, it's about delivery and putting it to the ground. The V8 car runs good because unlike most people we actually made the car hook-up. We didn't just throw a bunch of power into it and wonder why it runs a 10.80 @ 162 mph like alot of the Supra owners out there. It's easy to sit around and bullshit about building a car to run 9s, but until you actually do it, it's hard to realize just how hard it is to do. BTW, I'm not saying it's the fastest thing alive, but its one of the fastest S-chassis cars in the US for certain. I'm working with a UK team to produce my project car. It'll be an RB26 into my maroon S14 utilizing some high lift Tomei 272s, stock bottom end, and a set of HKS GT-RS turbochargers to the tune of about 700rwhp. I've helped them tune the GTRs with this setup, it wasn't easy since we had to work around some surge issues with the lower boost settings but we are making progress. |

I believe the parts to make it have a 10k redline are available for the standard rb26dett...not just the rbx block that the 400r uses. Yes high redline doesn't mean shit sometimes, but I'm not talking about a little 4 cylinder, it's an inline 6 and a damn good one at that. I just think it's better than an LT1...not just drag racing, but reliability and useable power.
And it is possible to keep the AWD setup...just takes a lot of money. I'm not sure if it's already been done, but I'm sure with enough custom work it could be and with 4 wheels spinning rather than 2...that alone would make the LT1 weaker if they both put out similar horsepower. I was kidding anyways...I don't care about drag racing. It may involve skill, but I hate how reaction time is all the driver really is trying to master. The rest is mostly setup and some skill at shifting properly and applying the right amount of throttle. Auto-X is what I want to do once I get a decent car....seems to be a lot more fun.

If your gonna do Auto-X I suggest a 13B-T rotary motor. |
