Oil-changing tip
I may be the only person left who didn't know this trick, but today I spent two hours trying to unscrew my oil filter. I used rubber gloves, jar opener grip pads, pliers, and even tried hitting it with a hammer because I was pissed off. I called a friend and told him this bs and after calling me a dumbass he told me to hammer a screwdriver through it and pull. After getting oil in my eyeball and some long cussing, it came right off.

why not just spend 4.50 on the adjustable oil filter wrench that connects to your socket handle?????

yeah i dont mean to make you sound stupid but crxlvr is right, thats the best way. get the oil filter wrench thingy. thats the way i do it.

Screw that mess, when I change the oil on my Civic, I can twist the filter right off with my bare hand! It's all about NOT tightening as tight as you can when you put a new filter on. Putting it too tight will fuXor up the rubber O-ring seal and cause leaks.
Wrenches/cups are for the weak.

Not really though. I put oil on the seal as well, which doing so is what helps keep the seal snug from leaking when you hand tighten it on, that's why you don't want to tighten it too tight.

you are only supposed to put another 1/4 turn into the filter after the gasket makes contact.

Yes lubing the seal is a good idea
I usually pre-fill the filter before installing, less time w/ no oil pressure. Some cars are impossible for pre-filling the filter due to mounting posistion. If you can't pre-fill, fingering the threads with new oil is also a good idea. Dont forget to wipe down the mounting plate before installing new filter & make sure the old gasket came off when removing the old filter. Double gaskets are mess not that I did that before There is no reason to be superman when tightening the filter, just think your gonna have to remove it next time. I use a shop rag sprayed with Fuel Injection cleaner for removal & installing - makes a nice grip - latex gloves makes a nice grip also

Damn anybody know how many quarts a B16B takes? I put about 3 3/4 in, drove around for a couple days, and when I checked it last night there was just a little smidgen on the tip of the dipstick... Also, I checked underneath and saw no leaks.

i think B16 takes 4.25qts. if you are unsure on the oil amount - 4cyl start with 3.50qts - 6cyl start with 4 qts - 8 cyl start with 4.50qts. Start the engine & wait for oil pressure(few seconds) shut off engine & check oil level. If low add as needed. Its always easier to add more oil then drain .50qts.

yeah, I do it by hand, and turn it about 3/4-1 turn after the gasket hit. last time I did myoil change, I took off the filter, oiled the gasket put it on and tightened it and knew something felt wrong but went on anyways, and then put in 4 quarts. started it to get the pressure going, only let it run like 5-10 seconds I guess, chewcked it and it wasnt even touching the dipstick, looked under the car and all my oil was on the slab. took off the filter and removed the old gasket and then proceeded tpo feel like an A$$
