agian with the neons....this time in the trunk.
I have an extra 9" nube sitting here still connected to the transformer. The other one broke off and i never bothered trying to use this one that's left before. I would like to put this one behind my sub box. I would also like for it to come on when i open the trunk. Is this possible? I'm familar with grounding wires, wiring toggle switches in, and using the solderless electrical kit. What i'm not familar with is "tapping" into wires. I got a really great diagram from ci5ic on how to wire neons into the fuse box using a toggle switch, distributor, and a fuse. How can i get a neon tube to come on when i open the trunk?

I know of one way that may work for you. Hook the positive wire to power supply. Negative wire goes to a pop switch. The switch must be mounted in a metal hole(chasis contact to make ground)

Actually, you'd just tap into the circuit (that's already there) where a normal trunk light would hook up to, for the neon to come on when you open the trunk. There's a blue and a gray wire that go to the trunk latch I believe. Pop your trunk, and look at the latch loop on the bottom of your trunk latch, you'll see a couple wires with a harness that go to the latch.

Yes, you can tap the ground trigger from the trunk latch. However, you may or may not have to diode isolate it depending on what you use for your 12V+. My neons are hooked through a couple of relays to my HU remote and my trunk ground trigger.

the way I see it you can do it in atleast two ways, you can either do it wth a 'pop switch'(?) that connects when the trunk is opened OR you can get one of those 'tilt' swiches and set it so that when the trunk is opened to possition Y the tiltswich connects.
Or you can always have a switch in the compartement of the car that you connect to the ignition so that you can manually turn the trunk neons on and off and when then ignition is off so are the neons. there is probably a hundred ways of doing it depending on wheter or not you wish to use relays or not.. have fun! |

i did this in my trunk.... where the bulb is now... pop the plastic piece off and u will see 2 screws or bolts..... unscrew those the the housings comes off where the bulb is..... my suggestion... take out the interior light fuse first.... then there should be a little harness that u can unplug... that has 2 wires on it... one is a positive and ones a negative... u can either cut the harness off... or just strip the wires.. depending on if u ever want to re-attach ur regular trunk light... take the wires from the neon and attach one to one and the other to the other....for now just crimp the wires on with ur hand and then pop the fuse back in... if the neon light comes on.. u wires it right.. u can sodder or tape up the wires... if it don't come on.. take the fuse out and switch the wires... u'll be all set... hope this helps
