I'm new and just bought an 94 Accord 250K miles!

I just bought an Accord EX 94 model with 252K miles on it. It is basicallt mint except needing a new exaust system. I have only $1350 in it!

Please help with suggestions on how I can keep her running for many more miles!

Has an auto tranny and all the power including moon roof!

Any suggestions on oil etc??

Thnx!

Follow the recommend maint. schedule
If you dont know the last time the Timing Belt & Water Pump were replaced, replace them as soon as possible. Its not cheap, but cheapier than a new engine.

Quaker State High Mileage Oil or a Synthetic Blend would be best, regular will do just fine on that car.

Mobil 1 is or Royal Purple is my choice.
Amsoil is good stuff!

Check how dirty it is, but you might want to change your transmission fluid too, only use Honda ATF though..

Valvoline Vmax hi-mileage 5w-30 -- stick with it

Is the transmission slipping at all? If so changing the fluid MIGHT make problems worse then they already are.

I personally use Amsoil in my car. I've got a 1988 Accord with almost 200k on it. Engine is squeaky clean on the inside. It's manual though, but I agree with the rest -- use only Honda automatic transmission fluid. It'll keep the transmission in good shape and you don't need to change transmission fluid nearly as often as you do engine oil.

Other than that, just like the others' said, check your timing belt and water pump while you're in there. I'd check your other belts while you're at it and have your brakes checked too. That aside, I'd say you're good to go unless you want to spend a little more and have Honda do a tuneup on it. They'll inspect a lot and adjust valves and change your antifreeze and spark plugs and the like.

Got her in the shop today to get my breaks bled and to inspect the timing belt and get an estimate on replacing it along with a water pump.

The transmission shifts hard but does not slip...is a lil different feeling fourth gear downshift to third on those lil rises though.

I will have to get u all some pic's, this car is ment.

Thnx

Just got my car back from having my breaks bled($14.00) it breaks great now(non-spungy now) and maybe my ABS light won't come on again?? I got an estimate on having my timing belt and water pump replaced($224.00 parts, tax and labor)

What u all think???

Is that a good price?

My mechanic is really great on foreign cars and was a certified Toyo expert mechanic.

I trust him!

Thumbs up

That is a nice car you bought!!! My neighbor has a '94 Accord EX 5spd with 384,000 miles on it, and still running STRONG!!! Those engines will last forever, if taken care of. $240.00 for Timing Belt and Water Pump, that is a great price!! I don't think you could find a better price.

Roger my mechanic said the belt looked fine but i am not sure of the miles on it so I told him when I get paid again I will have him do it.

I really would not have thought that much about it if it had not been for here.

Thnx guys!
