Do you give homeless people change???

Something that's gets to my mind everytime I see a homeless person on the street...does he/she deserve the free money he/she is getting??? Don't get me wrong, I'm a nice person (at least I think) and it's a very nice thing to pay people in need to help them out, but what if that person that is homeless is a terrible person inside and the only thing they do with the money they're getting is hurting themselves.
What if someone with the mentality of a rapist or a seriel-killer turned out to be homeless, you'd see him/her on the street and give him/her a bit of money, but do they REALLY deserve it?????
Kind of a wierd topic but I'm just curious to see what others think.

I partially agree with that, but I also think they at least need some money to eat. But they do need to get off their asses and get a job, 'cause not everybody is gonna give 'em money.

I think if you gave a homeless person money for "food" they would op for liquor or drugs before food

not usually... i live in a town that is a really big tourist town, and the tourists always give them money. i'v seen a bum wearing a suit with a cellphone before, begging for money.

I am originally from Cincinnati, and I remember watching a guy, leave the soup kitchen downtown in scruffy clothes... and get into a brand new lincoln continental. so, I decided never to give them anything. BUT, when I was stationed in Great Falls MT, in the military, there were 2 homeless people in town. If you tried to offer them anything, they would refuse. My GF and I, at the time, tried to take them some food on thanksgiving, and they refused it. Now, here in Topeka, I'm a corrections officer, working the book-in division at the county jail. I see all these so called "homeless" people that we normally see on the corner with signs saying will work for food, or something to that nature, get booked in drunker than shit, and usually having more money on them than I make in a week, and I get paid pretty damn good. Thrice be damned, I will never give anything to a homelss person again.

Occasionally. I only ever see them in the CBD (when on the turps) so am feeling fairly liberal with $3.

I don't. The only person around here that I've seen, which it's been a while since I've seen him, had a sign that said "Why lie, I just want a beer". My dad said he gave him some money and saw the guy walk to the store and buy beer. And yes they are lazy asses. My friends dad owns a construction company and needed some help and went to a local apartment building that houses the homeless and tried to find help and said he'd pay them $7 an hour and every guy said no b/c he can make more than $7 an hour doing nothing. So go figure. I guess some people are just happy doing nothing and living like trash.

It doesnt seem fair to me what youre doing. Youre creating a stereotype that all homeless people dont need the money, and that they are going to blow it on booze and drugs. This may be the case for some, but many homeless people were born into poverty or had something happen to them that caused them to be homeless. Say for instance a hispanic steals your wallet, does that make every hispanic a thief, of course not, i dont think its any different for homeless people. Usually when i see one in a city i give them a few bucks, and if they want to blow it on liquor, thats their choice, they can live how they choose. However, if theyre near a resteraunt, sometimes ill just buy some food and give it to them, and most are very grateful.

we have a shit load of them here in Anchorage...they always stand outside the wal mart parking lot with please help, they stand right next too where the cars turn onto the main road

Exactly, if they are asking for money to 'buy food' then go and get them something to eat rather, 9/10 don't buy food with money they beg for food.

I helped out with a 'Soup Kitchen' in SA and they used to tell us not to give any money out at any time, there were plenty of programs available which were Govt. funded to help feed them, they wanted the money to buy glue for sniffing and the like.

I have done the same thing..They told us the same also...it's sad that people wouldent want too change that lifestyle...c'mon you cant like living like that
