the sol's great... but you're 16 and male, so insurance automatically says "uh-oh! Speed racer kid!"... so they've established that you're young and think you know more than you actually do. Now they look at the car.. "HOLY HELL! 2 door sports car in convertible class!!" So no matter who drives it, the insurance is automatically gonna be kinda high.. now they look at the two, and say "WTF?! 16 year old speed racer in 2 door convertible! PAYDAY!"

1300 for 6mos or a year? damn that would be a lot for 6 mos. since youre 16 im guessing you just got your license and this maybe your first car, maybe you should get something i little bit cheaper, that's what i did

Car insurance will stink no matter what you drive until you're 25 years old. Having a sports car class vehicle will just increase the already expensive insurance. I'm assuming you'll have full coverage? Good idea if you're just getting your license. You may not be a speed demon, but you're inexperienced and won't always be able to compensate for other bad drivers.
My first car was a 1988 Honda Accord sedan (still have it! ). Pretty inexpensive car, runs well and a long time if you take care of it. I'd recommend something along those lines and also a manual transmission car. Once you learn on a manual, you'll be able to drive anything.Having a driver's education class will also look good for the insurance agency. Might lower your rate a little.

Re: Bad Insurance?
I just got a 1995 Del Sol, and my insurance actually went down -- due to the fact that I previously drove a 1990 Honda Civic...in which the only safety options are probably the seatbelts...and if you are pessimistic, the dashboard -- Sol has airbags, etc... I would get a simple car, something along the lines of a 90-93 Accord. Can't beat the value there...and if you take care of it, you will have the car until you grow sick of it.

Re: Bad Insurance?
hey, a good idea is to get the car under your parents. Register the car under your dad or mom, and then the insurance will be lower for them. So you will still pay for the insurance, but it will not be as expencive as it would be if the car is registered under your name. Just dond get into accidents because the insurance will be raised for all of your dad's or mom's cars. Im 16 and dont have a car, planning on buying one of these : prelude, del sol, or a 300Zx. When I get the car, it will be registered under my dad's name, and the insurance will be for him, Im just gona pay it though. hope this helps to all of you youngsters like me.

Re: Bad Insurance?
WTF is with people pulling up these old threads? Seriously people.... knock it off unless you have a question that hasn't been discussed. If he was still trying to find insurance, the last post wouldn't have been on 08-20-2003
