Ditching my sleeve coilovers, need good lowering springs

k i just had a bad experience with some dropzone coilovers...

worked on the front fine, but the rear springs were the same size as the front so there was a huge gap between the top of the coil and the car:

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/...1/fb8c3c05.jpg

then the spring compressor i rented didnt work because the things that pulled down on the spring coils were too fat and didnt fit between the coils so i had to put the stock front springs on the back because they were short enough but then it blew one of my rear shocks.

now heres the question. what is a good lowering spring that will lower 2.25-2.5 inches. i liked how i could lower the front of my car 3.5" on the dropzone coilovers (i have 15" rims on low profile tires so i HAD to lower it that much to get rid of the wheel gap) but thats a little much... 2.25-2.5" would be fine.

do dropzone lowering springs have a bad rep like their coilovers.. like the hella shitty ride quality? (didnt know about their bad rep on coilovers... i confused them with ground control when i bought them and realized when they came in the mail that i ordered the wrong thing...)

Sleeve type coilover suck in general, dropzone or ground control. Check out the Neuspeed Race springs for a 2" drop. I have seen the Neuspeed race springs sold with valve matched shocks, cant remeber where. That would be the way to go, 2 pieces designed to work together. H&R cups kit is sweet but not the drop your looking for. Make sure you have a good set of shocks for a 2" or more drop, stockers wont be able to control the springs properly.

Dont forget about a camber kit

yea i was thinking neuspeed or skunk2.

are dropzone lowering springs sucky? the springs not the coilovers, i have the coilovers and i know they suck, i was wondering about the springs.. they are a 2.5" front drop and a 2.25" rear drop, exactly what im looking for, and they're $101 + $17 shipping (from their site www.dynamicautodesign.com) which seems a good price.

Price matters when buying springs or shocks. There is a reason why some stuff is way cheapier than others. Spend the money & get good stuff. IMO

There have been alot of bad experiences with dropzone. At least go with skunk2 or ground control if you can`t afford true coilovers.

i was probably going to get skunk2. i can afford true coilovers, my dad wont let me and i dont really want to either, because guess what? true coilovers are 1/3 the whole value of the car. f-ing ripoff if you ask me.

I agree they are a waste of $$$ if your not going to use them for what they're made for. Coilover is one of the best mods for suspension.

my car was 3k, i dont want to spend $1100 on tein flex or anything like that. im not autocrossing or even 1/4 mile racing, i just want some extra handling capability through the windy backroads by my house and a more aggressive look. i will be getting sway bars, lower tie bars, strut bars, adjustable shocks, and new polyurethane bushings in the near future, but for now skunk2 springs will be enough for me.

With all that stuff you're planning to get, why would you waste money on it all by getting substandard springs which are one of the most important components of the suspension? I have the Tein SS myself, only paid $850 for mine. The Tein Basic kit (the SS minus the dampening adjustment) is about $150-$200 LESS than the SS model, so about $600-$700 you should be able to find them for. They aren't as expensive as you think. If you're getting all those bars and the bushing kit, crappy springs won't let them preform as well as they could otherwise, make sense? You don't have to be an auto-X'er to have suspension like that. I can guarantee you the Tein Basic kit will be what you want, as it'll give you that aggressive look you're after, AND give you a near stock ride feel to complement it. Skunk2's won't. They will have MUCH more bounce. It's all about matching the springs to the shocks, can't do that with coil sleeves and getting whatever shocks to go with them. Just an FYI, tie bars and strut bars don't do as much as you think, they don't help much if any in handling, as it's SWAYbars that help kill body roll. Just keep that in mind. Also if some windy back road driving is what you plan to if even occasionally, you'll need a good set up to handle it well, I know this from experience.

yea when i first got my car it had 195/60r14s that were like $30 each and i was used to my last integra that had KYB AGX's and Z-rated tires (and a few other assorted suspension mods) and almost lost it on a backroad, if you had seen me do it i was drifting with the exception of the rear tires spinning on a 1 lane mountain road, almost went off a cliff. biggest difference ive seen was going from 195/60r14s to 195/50zr15s. the 14s would start to slip out in the rear even going the speed limit on many turns. i dont know what it was, probably the cheapass tires, but my moms high profile SUV could sooo outhandle my DA with those suck 195/60r14s

what do you mean?

i got a 91 integra GS when i got my license and it had 95 GS-R 5 spokes with Z-rated tires on it, brand new. came with the car.... as did the KYB AGX's. then like 8 months later some girl ran a stopsign and tboned me, car was totalled. took the insurance money and bought a 90 integra GS that came with stock 14" alloys with 195/60r14s then a few weeks later i took the 95 GS-R 5 spokes with the Z-rated tires and put them on the 90 GS but the tread was almost gone so i got 195/50r15s, didnt feel like spending the extra money for z-rated tires...

If they were already on & free, nevermind

Z-rated tires are for speeds in excess of 180mph

yea they grip a little better too, but they're softer rubber so they wear out faster too.... if i was autocrossing i'd put them on if i had a set but if you have any negative camber and you corner hard they'll get so trashed so fast. friend had a set of z-rated tires, 500 for the set and there were threads showing after 3 months... go go waste of money!
