Fiberglass Question

Hi crew,

I am in the process of modifing a big mouth bumper. My big mouth bumper seems to flare out a little more then the stock bumper. If I heat the fiberglass bumper up a little will it bend or will it burn?

If anyone know the question please let me know.

Juan

i think it would burn before it will bend. just think wouldn't there be more fiberglass hoods out there sunken in if you could bend it with heat that easily?

Expirement: Next time it is 100 degrees outside walk over to your fiberglass kit and give it a pull.

I think you're SOL.

"Fiberglass" is a resin reinforced by fibers. The resin is hard and somewhat brittle. I doubt you can bend it by heating it. Once the resin curses, it's set. If you can heat it enough to bend it, I think you would seriously weaken it.

That's the bad news.

The good news is, if you know what you are doing, you can cut it and patch it the way you like it.

The bad news here is if you don't know what you are doing, it's really easy to botch it.

Heating worked for my friends fiberglass Altima front kit.

I recieve my information from the local owner of M&W fiberlass Co. right outside of Newberg OR. I think hs knows his fibers.

Again, do you have any pic's? If then, we can see if you really do have a big problem. You might just need better brackets made. (Pictures)
