Dual Exhaust Civic?!?

Ive just sorta started my research on exhaust systems, and i want to ask you guys what is the purpose of dual exhaust on a 4 cylinder?
Wouldnt it hurt performance? would it raise backpressure?
good? bad? both?

any info?

well i would assume that it would help with backpressure but not a vast amount considering it's only another pipe coming out of the actual muffler, there's not really a purpose to it....

No point really. Even the SiR runs a large pipe out of the muffler that then splits in a "Y" into two tips.

In my own personal opinion the dual exhaust look, looks gay to me... because everyone knows there's not a big enough engine under the hood to Need dual exhaust... and I'm a big believer in functionality.

It would be cool if you ran duals all the way from the header or something, I've never seen that on a civic before, but otherwise, there's no purpose.

i love mine....sounds really deep...better than most eshausts out there...but i'm in the process of selling it

....can't run dual pipes from the header....already asked at the muffler shop...the canal is too small...have to run like 2 1" pipes or something

here's a pics for those who haven't seen it...

sure you could do that, but you would lose about 20hp. the header merges together for the purpose of exhaust scavenging.. i.e. the flow from one exhaust port helps pull the gas from the next open port and so on.

If it was such a good idea to run duals, or made more performance, you'd see them on 4 cylinder race cars. Sure, the neon ACR and the new cavaliers/sunfires have duals, but then again, those cars suck ass.
