Best cost-effective carbon fibre / kevlar decal?
There are a lot of options for carbon fibre details, so I'm wondering what is the best in terms of quality and price? Some of these unfortunately don't tell you the dimension of the sheet, so you could expect a lot and get a little.
I also don't understand why one decal sheet of a single pattern reproduced 1000 times has to be so expensive. You can buy a kit for $20 with a full, unique decal sheet. So what do you prefer for carbon fiber and kevlar decals? Thanks.

IMO Scale Motorsport makes the best quality for your buck!

There are a lot of companies making CF and kevlar decals these days and all of them are slightly or drastically different. Then there are many different types of CF and Kevlar weave. It depends on the look you are after. I like to mix and match to get different effects.
SMS - good but expensive, the best kevlar (yellow basket weave). I wonder about their quality control because some sheets I have apply great, while some others are very brittle. Museum Collection - fantastic, their kevlar isn't as detailed at SMS but goes on great. Their CF is a great, different style of pattern. F1 Specialties - the best for twill weave (stripedy), kevlar isn't a basket weave, just tan twill weave. Modellers - good CF, kevlar not so good (stripedy not basket), not terribly flexable. Studio 27 - havent tried applying it yet but a excellent and novel pattern, particularly in grey, the tan/ yellow I'm not so sure about. Renaissance - good, again their kevlar isn't basket weave. Carpentia/Colorado - bit crude, best to avoid SAS - dunno, haven't seen it yet! Why does it cost more than a kit decal. Economies of scale. |

Even though its a bit expensive IMO SMS will match pretty close, like rallyraider said they have the best carbon kevlar like the underside of the hood.
I have experienced it being a bit brittle as well but I think it was an old sheet. |

Cheapest way is to print your own.

For the black/grey twill weave carbon fibre in the first picture I'd use F1 Specialties or SMS, but most manufacturers do a decent version of this.
Second picture isn't very clear but the weave and colour appear to be somewhat unusual. Perhaps SMS kevlar with a clear smoke/tan coat to tone the colour down. Or the new Studio 27 tan/yellow. Neither are cheap though. |
