Annoying Noise :(

I've been having this problem lately, when the engine is cold (usualy takes 15 minutes of driving for it to stop) it sounds like a belt is squeeling. I want to say it's the fan belt, but honestly I don't know. I'm up on my oil changes, I have 197,786 Miles on it and the only problem I've had before was the timing belt broke one day when my mom had it out of town. If it has been in the sun (Which is rare) then when I start it even if the Gauge says the engine is cold it doesn't squeel... but if it is in the shade, say over night then it does it. Any ideas? Can I fix this on my own?

Your timing belt broke and you're engine didn't explode? Interesting. About the squeeling though... Open the hood and run the engine. Listen around for where the sound is coming from. A squeeling belt is pretty easy to diagnose. The accessory belts are easy to remove. Usually involves loosing one nut, and then pulling the belt off. Consult a repair manual. Check the belt for signs of wear like cracks, stripes, discoloration, irregular features. Check that the belt is still shaped like a V. Hold a stright edge on the side of the V, and check that the sides are still flat. If the entire length of the V does not touch the striaght edge, you have found your squeel. Get a new belt for 5-10 bucks at the local auto parts store.

I found it, it **LOOKS** to me to be the belt that is attached to the Alternator... I'm pretty sure that's what it is, it's towards the front on the LEFT side of the engine, lower part of a VQ30DE it appear cylindrical I believe I was told once that it is the alternator. It can be seen with out removing anything so that would be easy to repair... correct?

Yeah thats probably the alternator. Look around it, if you only see electrical wires going into and out of it, and no metal piping, than its the alternator. The belt is easy to take-off and replace. On my car, the alternator is held to the engine by two nuts. Loosening both nuts releases tension on the belt., Then just pull the belt off, put the new one on, and retighten the bolts to tension the belt.
