Well your engine has nissans version of vtech in it. It puts out 175 hp, pretty damn good for a 1.6ltr, another guy in NZ shoved a pod filter on his and did a 15.1 down meremere so theres a bit of info for you
yeah im from NZ as well. Did yours come with a Autech bodykit on it??

Hey,
How can you give a comparison on how your VZ-R compares to a V-tech civic. I'm stuck with the problem of trying to choose between the two. I just wanted to know what their like. Cheers |

Re: Pulsar VZR
in my opinion id choose the pulsar vz-r...over the usual civic...
pulsar = 175hp plus a lot more torque civic = 167 hp |

Re: Re: Pulsar VZR
But the Civic weighs less, and despite a few less hp has a much flatter torque curve compared to the VZ-R.
Its also got a signifcantly superiour suspension design. Not to take anything away from the VZ-R, they are an impressive car, its just that by the time it came out Honda had been useing and refining the same technology for a much longer period of time, in cars since 1989 and on bikes since about 1984. And its VTEC, not that hard to remember as Honda kind of likes everyone to know about it by putting at least once sticker on every car equiped with it. About the only thing the VZ-R has over an SiR/VTiR is exculsivity. They are very rare in comparison, even in Japan. The GTI Pulsar is a much more popular import, the 1.8L engine being better able to pull around heavy pulsar body. The VZ-R was only really built to try and compete with the SiR Civic and GT Corrola in the 1600cc tax bracket in Japan, and to meet homolgation requirments for the 1600cc N1 class racing in Japan, for which the VZ-R N1 was built. With a light weight body, and some wild cams to get it around 200hp its certianly a wild car, but with an idle speed of around 2,000rpm it also shows that Nissan were reaching to the edge of thier experiance to build it, an SiR, or Type R civic with similar engine work will still idle happily at 700rpm. You have to remember that trough most of the 90s Nissan was well and truely on its way to going broke, most of the R&D money targeted for sports models was aimed at the Skyline, 300zx and 200sx/Silvia. If you really want a performance Nissan they are the cars of choice. The Pulsar, while still spectacular, lacks the time and money spent on its much bigger siblings. Honda however have been experiancing a huge boom in growth since the mid 80s, and have almost completly specialised in building small FWD cars, so thier of course able to spend far more time and money on building a sports orintated hatch back, while they have nothing that can compare to the likes of the skyline, 300sx and 200sx/silvia. Anyway, good to see more Kiwis on the forum, just secretly we actualy run the place, but don't let the Americans know it. Those of you interested in starting a Pulsar club might want to talk to some of the Primera owners, the NZ Primera Owners Club was set up largely by members from here, and is a great club full of some nice people who Im sure would be willing to help out with advice etc. Check out: http://www.primeracarclub.co.nz/

i have a vz-r n1 and i absolutly love it! i used to own a integra type r as you can see from my name, and i much prefer the n1! it doesnt idle at 2000 rpm it idles at a lovely 1100 rpm then it screams all the way to 8576 rpm! it was built to go up against the 1.6 ltr civic type r and it kicks its arse big time! nissan just wanted to prove that they could do as good as honda and they did even better!
