Couple questions...

1) Whats the difference between the Lancer WRC and Lancer WRC2?

2) Will the new Colt carry a 4G63 like the Lancers?

Thx for the help. I've been a rally fan for almost 2 years now, but somethings I still dont understand.

1) Lancer WRC2 was a revised Lancer WRC. I could do some research to find ou exact differences.

2) Who knows?

The WRC2 wa rather heavily revised in comparison to the WRC(1) Lancer, mostly engine and transmossion, but also a load of other stuff. You can read up on it here

Last rumor I heard was that Mitsu wasn't going to use the Colt and that it was only internet fuelled speculation that they would.
Anyone hear anything different to this?

The truth is that no one except Mitsibishi know the answer to that. The Colt rumour was certainly strong, but then Tso came along and conclusively illustrated to us ( ) that they will continue with the Lancer. I just don't know. If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on the Colt, but not a lot of money, considering how much heritage the Lancer Evos have and how important to Mitsubishi they are marketing-wise. We'll have to wait and see.

Short answer is: nothing, they're both slow.
Alex has given the comprehensive answer above, plus there were a few (I assume mostly cosmetic) bodywork changes.

Mitsubishi have never stated any intention to use a Colt based WRC. Presumably they and Ralliart know what they are going to do next year, but they haven't told any of us yet.

Alex, Tso only comprehensively demonstrated one thing to us - and it had nothing to do with rallying!

Do you mean what model did he use as a basis for the conversion, or do you mean from what Rally?

It's a WRC2, the kit comes as a WRC though which Phil then updated.

Like Ray said my Hakkinen Lancer WRC2 started out as a WRC1. There are pictures of the conversion on the progress thread:

Update on the Colt vs. Lancer issue.

Lancer gets the vote

August 5, 2003

Mitsubishi Motor Sports chief Sven Quandt has disclosed that future World Rally Cars will be based on the Lancer, not the smaller Colt.

The Lancer was always likely to be the basis of the team’s 2004 car, because there was too little time to turn any other model into a front-line rally car. But Mitsubishi has investigated using the smaller Colt hatchback, noting the success of the 206 - a car that scraped into the WR Car class only when Peugeot agreed to make 2,500 with longer bumpers and the FIA agreed to modify the regulation stipulating a minimum length of four metres.

However, the trend is towards increasing WR Car dimensions to reflect the growing size of road cars, limiting Mitsubishi’s freedom for manoeuvre.

“For a marketing point of view, it would probably be best if we used a Lancer, because the Colt is not sold in all markets,” Quandt said.
