B-Series engines disappearing?

I'm feeling a bit disillusioned. I'm sure many of you plan to or already have swapped a B-series engine into your civic. As time ticks on, however, a b-series swap will become less and less viable. Becuase Honda switched over to i-VTEC and its K-series engines, the B-series engines are no longer a part of its "main production model lineup." While the demand for these engines is sky-rocketing, the supply is slowly but surely dwindling. According to the August 2003 issue of Honda Tuning magazine, "the supply of B-series engines is thinning out...the JDM B-series is getting harder to come by and the price has definitely gone up...the transmissions are very, very rare as well." All I have to say is...that sucks.

wow that must of taken alot of thought since the K-series motor has been out for some time now. Dude in like a year all these little fags that hopped into the scene will jump on the next fad and sell there Civic's for old 240's and join the drifting fad and the Honda scene will be badass, like it used to be 3 years ago before all these troll's came in

As much as people don't want to believe it, as the B16/18 seems to be fading away slowly, the demand and usage of D-series motors (ZC's D16Y8's and D16Z6's) seems to be increasing. This is due to the fact they CAN be built up well and strong as opposed to what people think, also since the price of B-series motors is going skyhigh, a D-series is just more budgetable even if you do have to dump more $$$ into it in the long run to get significant gains.

In general, how much money would it take, either NA or turbo (no nitrous), to get a D-series into the 13's?

Alot for a person with no hook-ups. Hook-ups meaning free parts.

I actually watched a buddy run a 13.8 Friday night in a 94 hatch with a 00 EX engine. He's pushing 9.5psi of turbo boost and I think a 65 shot of nitrous on top of that. Roughly estimated, $10k-$13k in mods.

I'd say that sounds about right. Beefing up the internals is what kills the cost. Figure about $4k for the turbo and nitrous set up alone.

base nitrous kit: $500
bottle fill: $42.30
blowing two D16's because you (I) didn't spend the $2,000+ on internals: priceless

It was either $47, or $42.30 and a little bit farther of a drive. I don't even have that stupid crap in my car anymore so oh well.

yeah, there was an article about this in SCC. They said now that the b-series is over with, no one is able to get them as easily as they used to. A lot of people are getting them and keeping them in their hatch or what ever swap they have. Finding one, will probably mean more money, or it may do the opposite and make them cheaper since they are getting older.
