Passenger side Mirror....

Some huge-a$$ bird came flying out of the ditch along side the road and smacked the passenger side mirror. Luckily the only damage was the mirror being cracked. The mirror assemby was not damaged or any body work. Im trying to find a replace mirror but only found the whole assemby. Does anyone know the part # for the mirror only? It has hookups for wires for the mirror defoster. Also i need the part # for the liftgate handle. Mine is broke. thanks

You can buy the mirror by itself...

Don't have part number handy....but it takes 5 minutes to snap off the old one and snap in the new one.

Be careful with the power mirror adjusting pins that stick out of the mirrow, they are flimsy plastic and break easily.

Found a complete replacement mirror for the driver's side (after market; - not OEM).

Attacking the problem from the outside only:

Our van has a crack in the mount that attaches to the door just below the swivel. Looks like the crack goes right through the torx screw mounting holes in the plastic mount.

You CAN get the mirror assembly off the mount by removing one phillips screw inside the mirror that holds the mirror assembly to the swivel mount. There are three torx screws that hold the swivel mount to the plastic mount attached to the door.

I took it apart and am trying Krazy glue to see if it will hold. Hot today, should cook the stuff, I think!

Looks like to remove the entire mirror assembly, you have to take the door panel off to remove the bolts that hold the mirror mount on and disconnect the wiring all together.

I'd consider buying a replacement mirror on Ebay for about $62.00 USD plus shipping, but as I've said they are not OEM but supposedly good replacments.

Does anyone have any thoughts on re and re or have an opinion about these aftermarket knock offs?

Depending on how exactly things are broke, JBWeld may work better/hold stronger then superglue. This presumes though that you can apply it from the inside or another inconspicuous area, unless you don't mind the grey look.

Not specifically with mirrors, but with headlights. "Meets OEM specs" doesn't always mean they look just like OEM. My dad got a set of aftermarket headlight for one side of his car and while they fit for the most part, there were obvious differences in how they were designed and looked. It looked odd having the two different lights. My guess is that you will find the same with most after market trim parts...they are close, but not exact.

Not familiar with this product and decided not to try it, although the maker says it might be able to bond the plastic together (key being whether the mount is PVC or not).

Did the Krazy glue thing and clamped the mount in a vise over night. The glue attacks the plastic which is a good indication that a good bond is occuring. Cleaned it up and polished the scratches out with 400 grit and polishing compound, then reinstalled it yesterday.

Because one of the mounting holes (there are 3 of them) had been split by the crack, I left one mounting crew out and bonded the mounting plate swivel (cast steel) to the plastic mount with a layer of clear silicone sealant.

As a preventative maintenance suggestion, if folks haven't lubricated the mirror swivels, do so at your first opportunity. If the guy at the local car wash has a habit of folding the mirrors in for you, you could break a mount like I did. (In my case, I think someone's shoulder came up against the mirror in a parking lot though)

If this doesn't work, I think I will spend the $$$ and buy an OEM part to ensure a match left to right.
