What to buy

I would like to buy a used late 80s bmw. What is the best choice for engine and model. I like comfort but do not want the ride of a bigger american car and i know that bmws do not ride like that. The choices are 533, 535, 325I, 325is, and so on. They are all realtively cheap and would like to hear any opinions on all of them if possible. Is there a year i should stay away from and what to look for before buying. A stick is not my choice either.

Well, if a stick is not appealing to you then for get the 3 series because the only thing to do in the E30 class is the M3 if you're looking for one that old.... I would shoot for the 5 series... go for as big as one as you can find.... 5xx bigger the xx the better. If you really want to be an enthuasist look out for a old M5 or even BETTER a old M6... that would be classic.

Thanks for your great advice. I have purcharsed an 86 535i and i love it. The engine and tranny are not in that good of shape but the car is bettter than most 4 year old cars body and enterior. The owners took good care of keeping it clean. I love the way it drives on the freeway and i paid very little. After driving it i had a big smile on my face because all i could think was ultimate driving machine. YES!


I would say that and laught to myself. It is a pure joy to drive and oh what a classic car. I feel like im driving a tank that goes pretty good that handles like a heavy go-cart. I will probably never drive anything else again. I have driven almost every car make and mercedes is also at the top of my list. Never owned one but test drove them all the time. BMWs are sweet cars!
