Rev limiter??? Distributor???
I recently dropped a conrod on the old engine and during the rebuild i replaced the old distributor (jap import) with a reconditioned australian vtir prelude type. But i now have trouble with the rev limiter coming on at 6700 could this be the problem? Would this also affect the knock sensor? I talked to a guy at a honda dealer and he believes the distributor to be the problem.

Are the two distributors identical?
Does you engine light comes on? Your car might be running on "limb home mode", try to see if there is an engine code eventhough if there is no check engine light. It shouldn't affect the knock sensor, but the rev limiter should be programed into the ECM not the distributor. Are you using the same ECM or you have something else?

Apparently the dude at honda believes that not all distributors from country to country are the same and that the ecu gets its signal from the distributor to tell it how many revs it is doing, if the coil etc is different it may think it up to 8000 revs when really it is only at 6700 rpm

Yes, there is a module inside the distributor that sends signals to the ECM and the ECM will determine what RPM it is from these signal to control the fuel. That's why I was wondering if the two distributor are identical.
