MPFI Wiring Conversion Prob....

Hi,

I just got done takin my DX harness and modifying it.
I extended the wires that had to be extended.
plugged in alternator, fuel injection plugs, everything pretty much fits right. Except when I tried to plug on of the 2 plugs that go to distributor.
One of the 2 prong plugs fits perfectly but the 6 prong doesnt fit correctly the SI one has 7 prongs.
The DX has 6.
Should I cut the SI one out and replace it with the DX one?
Doesnt one of them have 7 and the other 6 so I dont know what to do yet?
Thanks

Yes the DX has a 6 pin plug with 5 wires going into it, and the Si one has a 7 pin plug with 7 wires. The extra wires on the Si one is for the cylinder position sensor.

Do you have the Si plug also? If so all you need to do is depin the wires from the DX plug and plug them into the Si plug and you are good to go.

If you don't have the Si plug I would ghetto rig it until you can get one, don't cut those wires, keep them intact until you can get the proper plug, it will run better like that.

Ok,

Since I am a big hurry to get this car running can I just cut the Si plug and DX plug and just color match the wires, solder and heatshirnk them.
So I would have the 6 wires connected. The 7th wire would come out of the SI ECU and go into the Si distributor. The colors match from the DX to SI distributor correct?

Thanks

I think the main 5 wire colors will all be the same. Then you should have wires coming from C1 and C2 which will go into the cylinder position sensor spots. If I were you I would not cut anything, you will regret it.

#12 is the wire harness assembly, however I think you will need the other end to plug into it I guess. Try and find an Si plug at a junkyard, or any MPFI SOHC Honda engine should have a similar plug. Or perhaps if you can find a 2 hole plug you could just use that for a CPS wires and you wouldn't have to cut anything.

Ok, i guess i will have to find one.
So your saying even if I solder and hearshrink the wires together it still could come loose? I'm only gonna hopefully have to do this once as this is my only engine swap for this car.

Thanks

No it would be fine if you solder and heat shrink them. But what happens when you need to replace the Distributor, you can't just unplug it and take it out, you would need to cut those wires and that is a hassle. Doing it right the first time will save you a headache in the future. Plus cut up wiring looks sloppy, I like the OEM look.
