Hasegawa is important, please read if you dont know what it is
Ive noticed that most modellers here talk or at least dream about there Tamiya and Fujimi kits or kits to be. I just wanted to bring up Hasegawa to newer modellers that may not have heard of them as it seems alot of you havent. there arent any big secret but not always as available. they dont do as many kits as these other companies so selection is limited and they do limited runs so often out of production but if you ever have an oppertunity to pick up one of there kits you really should. i have found them to some times be even higher quality them Tamiya and if not, more accurately detailed. and because of this there are many Trans-kits available for them. Basically there incredible kits and often release the kits you wish Tamiya etc... would. for example i recently got a Lancia Delta Revolutione and have found it to be superior (not to mention unavailable) by Tamiya and others. also i found 3 different tran-kits for it. for something different but as good or better you should check them out. a great company that isnt afraid to tackle rare yet interesting cars and with some help from purchases could do alot more.

I wholeheartedly agree and a lot of them come with P/E parts included.
The Toyota I have has P/E grills, buckles etc and cast snorkel and breather for the Safari setup. |

Another lesser known company is Aoshima. Probably more known than Hasegawa, but less then Fujimi, Tamiya.

I have never seen an Aoshima model on any shelf at an LHS I've been too. Always special order. It's strange. You would think their S-Package cars would be a huge seller in North America.

Aoshima is a good company but i wouldnt define them as accurate. they are a great company for the Tuner scene however but i have had many problems with there kits in the fitting area. and they seem to be known much more.

Just my 2 cents since I'm building 2 Hasegawa kits right now...
I totally agree with freakmech... The kits are superb...THeir street cars(since most talked about WRC cars) are also awesome...I'm bulding their Civc and a 318 and both have great detail, excellent fit and something Tamiya never does windows masks for the black trim...I really believe that you should at leaast build one! I also never seen Aoshima in selves...Nor wheel kits ever...but I'll live with it...

Yeah, Hasegawa kits are great. They can be a bit more difficult to find and their 'decal engineering' of kits produces some strange results. Recently they have gone down a bit of retro rally path, releasing the Lancia Stratos and 037. I love them for that!
Hopefuly they will continue this trend and leave Tamiya to do the modern WRCs. I'd love to see a Fiat 131, Lancia Delta S4, Peugeot 504, Toyota Celica Twin Cam, Audi S1, Ford Escort MkI or RS200 all in 1/24th from Hasegawa. It's nice to dream

albeit
Tamiya has a large range of products and can be parralleled as the microsoft of the modelling world... the DO have good products their Grand prix series has improved dramatically from the F1 2000 to the F1 2001 and the latest Williams a great difference from when I first built F1 cars from their series years ago... Plus if I remember the have that carbonfibre sparying grill available in some WRC kits to get the carbon fibre effect by spraying!! that quite good

and the best part is , here in Europe the Hasegawa model cars are rebadged as Revells !
Which kinda gives strange results, as the stratos's and the RE037 are priced 17€ as a revell and about 35€ for a hasegawa ! But I do agree, the cars from Hasegawa are much better detailed and accurate then the Tamiya ones, and some of them eveninclude engines and photo-etched parts (the older ones) And another positive point is that the hasegawa kits mostly come with one big release like for example the Montecarlo 1977 Stratos, and then derive many different variants of that kit, decal variations with many extra parts to keep it very accurate, in contrary to what fujimi does. Olivier (hoping for a Delta S4 .. ) |
