This isnt really a big deal but i figured i'd ask and see if anyone knew what was up. so the problem is that when i got my AC on and i'm stopped at a stoplight, even if the fan is on low the engine idles really low rpms, like lower than it should...like barely running. a guy i work with told me that there should be a relay or sensor or something that tells the engine to speed up when the AC is turned on so that the rpms dont go down but when i turn it on. because of this i have to turn off the AC every time i stop. so there might be something wrong? anyone know or got a clue?

i dont think this will fix it, but you could try adjusting your idle screw on your tb , turn it maybe a 1/4 clockwise and see what your rpm's are at when you turn the a/c on then.
Tb= Throttle Body

What rpm does your car idle at when the A/C is off? I have a similar problem, but it's off and on. I have that problem when it's very hot outside. You can try to adjust the idle speed. But your friend's right. There supposed to be a sensor or relay to indicate when the A/C is on so the engine remains at the correct idle speed. If there's a problem with any of the sensors or the IACV, the check light should come on right? If the check light isn't on, well, I dunno. Hope it helps.

Actually, if you try to adjust the idle by turning the screw, most likely your ECU will override it, so that won't really do anything good. I had a similar problem with a mazda I had. Eventually I took it in to get checked out and the mechanic cleaned some parts in the throttle body and it worked fine. it just wasn't getting enough fuel. on another car i had it was an oxygen sensor right by the intake. it took me about 2 minutes to change. the light never came on by the way so it could still be a sensor. i say you take it to just get checked out by a regular mechanic and see if it's something you can fix urself. I really doubt that readjusting your idle will solve the problem completely and properly, though. Let me know how it turns out.

well i just added some fuel injector cleaner to my tank when i filled up yesterday so i'm gonna wait a while and see if that makes a difference if it was the problem of not getting enough fuel at low rpms. the car does seem to be running smoother, i just havent had the AC on yet.

It's possible that the fuel cleaner might not work. Sometimes you need to take apart some pieces and clean them by hand. Just keep that in mind. I hope it works out for you though, man.

my old 97 EX did that, it seemed okay to me, since it would usually idle at 700rpm normally without ac. I think it's just one of those things, as a car gets older. It's not dieing on you is it? Maybe you alternator is going out
