you gotta have an aftermarket cam to make good use of a cam gear IMO

if you do decide to get a cam gear, dont get AEM, ive heard of problems stemming from their three bolts slipping. most others have four or five and are supposed to be better

Got my AEM Cam Gears for $50 from my friend (yes, they're legit), and a buddy of mine uses AEM cam gears in his 13sec. hatch. I've never had any trouble with mine, and neither has he.

the only reason a cam gear is any use on a SOHC engine without an aftermarket cam is to adjust cam timing to suit your powerband.. retarding the cam will shift the powerband up in rpm, and advancing will shift it down. either way, you will stil need dyno tuning to confirm the new powerband. other than that, they are used for tuning cam overlap on DOHC engines and for degreeing in an aftermarket cam on a SOHC.

I think unless your car has some serious mods, cam gears are a pretty usless mod. You have to get them on a dyno to make any use of them.

I'd still get the 6 bolts cam gears over any 3 bolts. My boy had aem and they slipped on him. |
