prospective ranger buyer

5 mths and one week before i can get my license (yeah, texas is gay)... ne ways...
i am thinking about a 2000 ranger as my first car, but i need to do some resarch and get some opinons....

ne ways, i plan to take the ranger and try to get 250+ hp out of it, just so i have something to go cruisin' with on the road, and of some riced out pos whats to race, i can put him in his place. which means i have several questions....

1) as i said before, i plan to try to get 250+ hp out of it, but i need to know whats the best way of doing this?
should i:

A)take the stock engine and take it to the max. if i do this, then that would mean i would probably go w/ the 4.0L, and at the very least 3.0L, unless i can double the 2.5L hp(i dont think the engine is heldback that much)

or i could try to....

B) get a 2.5L ranger and engine swap w/ a V8 mustang. that option would be nice, but i only 17, and my parents wont let me get the engine, i dont even have to ask. so i would have to wait until collage or after collage. but, i could max out the truck ( yeah, i know an engine can rip a car into 2). i could take the truck to the max if i replace the axil, inprove the frame, ect. but i could end up w/ 400(?) hp

which option do yall like best and why?

2)i am somewhat of a newbie when it comes to cars and trucks, and it would help if yall knew some sites that can help, or pages w/ preformance rangers

3)how can i convince my mom to let me get a manual truck? i live in houston, so the hill thing wont work....

4)and some other misc. things....
a) all trucks r rearwheel drive, right? i never heard of a fwd truck, and i was just making sure
b) which do u think is better on a street setup 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel? i mean i personally would get a 4 wheel drive if i was offroading, but would 4wd be good on a street setup, or to much weight i dont need?\

thx for help

Go for the 4.0, there is a supercharger kit for it that im sure will set you well over 250whp. Whipple is supposedly coming out with a supercharger for the 3.0, but isnt available yet. I have the 3.0 myself and have been happy with it, it will beat a civic ex and i have very few mods. check out Ranger Power Sports .. these guys on there know everything! I have the same username on rps too so hit me up if you ever visit it. good luck and go for the ranger, you'll love it!
