My 95 Nissan altima couldn't start. They told me to change the starter. It cost me 260$ plus 50$ of labor fee. When I tried to get back my old starter, they told me that they would be charged 65$ if they give it back to me or I have to pay 65$ to get it back.
It sounds stange to me. Because they didn't tell me that I can not get back older starter. Is this a common practice ? thanks. |

its because they sent it off as a core to the starter company. did you say you wanted to exchange the old one?

since you already got the new one installed then i wouldn't bother buying the old one back. before you got the starter replaced, did you try and slightly tap the starter with the handle of a hammer or something like that? sometimes starters will just skip a tooth inside and the slight tapping will get it back into place.

I thought the reason why the tapping trick worked was because the Armature (sp?) and Brushes (they are probly brushless, but the part that connects to the armature) sometimes get corroded or gunked-up so it makes a poor conductive surface.
