Probe Help

hey guys...i have a question....there is an 89' ford probe down the street from me, and it is going for real cheap. like $800. and it has a turbo in it. well i was thinking about buying a 93 ford probe GT and decking it out. the V6 24 Valve. with a 5 speed. can i buy the 89' probe and take that turbo and put it in my 93???? or would a lot of shit be different? caz i am kinda new on turbos.

Not sure about the compatibilty question, but I do know that a turbo system involves much more than just the turbo unit itself. It has lots of tubing to route air in and out, it has to be installed into the exhaust system, the turbo has its own oil coolant system, and your computer will probably have to be remapped, air/fuel mixture changed. IF the turbo is compatible, make sure you are able to get all the associated hardware out of the old vehicle as well. Probably best plan of action is to contact a local aftermarket tuner shop, check on the compatibility, and then have them perform the swap, and you pay for labor.

Not really. My 89 Probe LX was only like 9 seconds to 60. Which is pretty slow. But it more than made up for it in drivability and personality. The suspension on that car was simply amazing for its day and its cost. On an autocross it could beat many cars with more HP just cause it was a better handling car. Plus I still think it looks good, even 15 years later. Reliable as well.

The probe GT's ran just under 7 seconds to 60, if i remember right. Your turbo mod on the base model should have comparable performance.

The I-4 from the 89 GL makes, I think, 110 hp or so. Check on the 89 what motor is in it, cause the V-6 makes 50 more hp than the I-4. I had the I-4 and it was sporty, but hardly fast.
The V-6 from the 93 is a 2.5L making 164hp and 154 lb-ft. Depending on how big the turbo is I'd say you could get roughly 20hp and 20lb-ft, maybe a little more. Thatd be about 190hp in a 2800 lb car. I'd say you're 0-60 should be pretty close to 6.5 seconds.

check probe talk for info on turbo'd probes they have tons of it and you don't have to be a memeber to browse, i thought about putting a turbo on my 93 gt but have decided the work involved was a bit much and now i think nos is sufficient
