Unhappy Truck doesn't start...

Hey all,

Hopefully this is a simple question. This morning I went to drive to work. The truck started very slowly but it did start. I shut it off and tried it again, slowly started but it did start. So I revved the engine a little and drove to work. When I got there, I shut off the truck and tried to start it again. It acted like it was going to start normally then it just died before the truck started. Now when I turn the key nothing happens except I hear, very faintly, the dinging sound that you normally hear when the door is open or you first start the truck. In auxilliary mode, the radio does work though the readout appears slightly faint.

Does this sound like a bad battery?

Thanks,

ICM

If not a bad connection and the alternator is charging correctly then you've probably got a bad battery.

No, My dad has a lot of old cars (all fords)
this sounds like the starter. He gets this a lot with the old cars. Getting a new starter always solves the problem.

uhh the starter would not cause readout's to go dim but yea it's prolly the alternator or you have a dead battery

well let me just put a thought in. I went thru 2 starters ( on my third) and 1 relay. all the times, battery was strong. radio, lights everything fine. just the starter acted as if binding, getting slower with each start until nothing. nothing except the solenoid clicking. so check everything before just buying a starter.

Re: Truck doesn't start...

If it attempted to turn over stronger than before you drove it to work, then yes the battery is bad. batteries are cheaper and easier, try that first. The battery sounds like it has a bad "D" cell in it, if it looks slightly swelled out on the side's then it is deffinitly the bat.
