North Carolina Emission Laws?

Was planning a move to NC this fall.....most of there laws as I knew them were pretty lax, no front plate, no loweringl laws, no emission testing. Someone told me that they now have strict emission testing like they do in Cali? Is this true or does anyone know for sure what I have to look forward too if we move down there with modded vehicles? Thanks

Yeah, I doubt they'd care if you were running a 672ci, blown, alcohol-injected race motor in a rusted-out, caged up, tubbed Chevy shitbox with straight pipes and no mufflers.

NC is the home of NASCAR, man. I'd say the only thing you'd have to worry about is hillbillys gunning you down off the back of an F-150 for driving an import, but I hear the import scene is pretty big there, too. So have fun! There are a ton of local tracks there, too, and I'd imagine it'd be pretty cheap to race on them with your buddies.

Also, I know for a fact that it's legal in pretty much all of the southeast to drive without a hood on your car. I've actually seen a fully equipped drag car cruising at night in Florida (this thing had the works: 36'' DOT slicks on the back, full roll cage and a 2-foot blower sticking out of the hood. It even had parachute straps and a wheelie bar on the back). I used to own a '79 350 Camaro; it's exhaust system consisted of 2 pipes that ended somewhere in the vicinity of the doors. No cats or mufflers; the pipes didn't even run the length of the car, and it was loud as shit. When this thing idled it smelled like a burnt match and made your eyes water, and it had an oil leak that made the exhaust fumes an inky black when it accelerated. I'd been pulled over many times in this car, and the only thing the cops had to say was that my brake lights were out and I was speeding.

By comparison, the loudest, most riced-out, heavy-breathing, force-inducted import looks like a hybrid econo-car. Whatever your thing is, I think you'll be safe.
