hi,
my girlfriend's father is thinking of buying one 98' Mitsubishi Galant VR-G GDi (1800cc) used from Japan. Did anyone knows a little about this car, like its horsepower, the wheels it can use? thanks

Galant VR-G
1999 Galant VR-G GDI 1834cc 4G93 EC1A (4WD)
The following describes the rims, tyres that are currently on my car, with absolutely no suspension modification. One of my mechanics was after me to put on 18" rims, but that would have taken lower profile tyres and I was not about to risk that with the potholes. Rims: ADR GT-Sport 17" X 7" SILVER (lug pattern: 4X100/114.3. Offset: 40) Tyres: Sumitomo HTR Z II 225/45ZR17 The Sumitomo tyres were very susceptible to side-wall damage from potholes and sustained bulges that affected balance and handling. I have sinced used GT-Radial Champiro 225/45ZR17 and have not yet had any bulges despite a few solid pothole hits. I am hopeful. The only other mod I have done so far is to very simply replace my stock filter with the K&N High Flow Air Filter #33-2794. It is a perfect replacement and requires no mods to the stock air box or adapter plates. However, I get the feeling that the cool air duct from the front of the car (grille) to the airbox is restrictive and steals power. I am currently studying a solution. The bigger wheels will make the car slightly more sluggish, and being as relatively heavy as it is with only 1834cc of displacement, it is no rocket, but it is definitely one of the phattest cars on the road when decked out with rims and spoiler, etc. Another obvious and relatively cheap power mod to consider is exhaust. However, I was warned by an autocomputer specialist not to screw with the engine management and certain other systems because the VR-G is highly sophisticated and the GDI technology is not yet fully understood in the aftermarket/performance market. |

hows the GDI 4G93 like? powerful? how bout fuel economy? here in malaysia there are no cars using this engine, we only have the old 4G93(air box on the right)in our proton satria GTi, good for 130hp@6000 and 16.7kg@5500. but the car i would really like to see is the galant VR-4. 2.5L, twin turbos, 4wd!!!

Weight - 1380KG Power(net) - 140PS/6000RPM Torque - 18KG-m/RPM (130.2LB-Feet) Fuel econ - 23.8KM/L @ 60KM/h The GDI technology allows for 2 modes, power and economy. The computer switches between these automatically depending on the driving habits of the driver. The economy is excellent with good gas. As you will notice, the car is quite heavy for its power, so acceleration on the 1800 4G93 is not awesome, but the technology is amazing, and handling is good. The traction control, smart transmission and all the other driving technologies take away some fun, but I gained a healthy respect when I drove up a steep, slippery, muddy hill without flinching, that a week before took me low range 4WD in a Pajero to get up. The Proton Satria is a lighter car with a similar engine and will do better on acceleration. The EVO spec 276HP 2.0L 4G63 Turbo (4cyl) Galant, the 2.4L 4G64 Turbo (4cyl) and the 2.5-3.5L V6 twin turbo models are all obviously better performance configurations for the package. |

GDI? I am pretty sure those are DIESEL. I remember reading about Mitsubishi GDI technology for its Monteros in Dakkar Rallies. You sure you want to get a diesel for a 4dr car?
