Thumbs up 1970 buick GSX

Why are there no posts in the muscle car section? You guys can play around all you want with your aftermarket-import-plastic....junk, but the truth is that nothing beats True American Muscle of the late sixties and early seventies...the days when glass and chrome were king.
I would love to get my hands on a pure stock 1970 buick GSX...a rare gem. A 455 ci motor, Underated 360 hp at 510 foot lbs torque. This thing would scream. Only a 4 speed would be acceptable.

Remember: there's no replacement for displacement.

Buick power

Good to hear from fellow Buick fans and welcome to the Muscle Car forum. I too am quite the Buick lover. My current ride is a 1971 Buick GS convertible with (sadly) the 350 V8. Of course, it is all original and #s matching so I am not complaining. I have also owned a 1969 Buick GS convertible with a non-original Buick 430 V8 (out of a 68 Riviera) and way too many performance mods to mention. I get my Buick big block fix by cruising in my brother's 72 Buick Rivera with the monster 455 V8. Got to love Buick power!

Unfortunately this forum seems to reflect the overall public interest in Buicks. Not much. This is too bad,and surprising, because I'm sure you people get the same response driving your cars as I do mine

I've got a '71 GSX.A red one,with all the goodies except air and the 4-gear.Yes,it's a real one,so don't ask.

Just out of curiosity, anyone here ever race their car at a track?I ran mine a few times and got surprising numbers, and on tearing it down for a refresh found everything stock. It's the low-compression 455 Stage 1,stock iron intake,Q-Jet,etc.After putting it back together the damn thing ran a 13.92 @ 98.22,a time I found somewhat remarkable.(only modification-a Pertronix ignitor.Love those things...)

New group, not low interest

The post count is low because this forum just started. Actually, the Buick discussion has more posts than the other groups so that is a good sign. I envy your GSX. I have always wanted one, although you can tell I am partial to convertibles - and no, they never made a GSX convertible (although I did see someone put the GSX decals on a GS455 convertible on the internet and it looked nice!). As for overall interest in Buick muscle cars, you are right that there is not a lot of general interest. I used to go to car shows in Los Angeles and there would be 50 Camaros and Chevelles, and my 69 GS would be the ONLY Buick. Most of the time, people think my 71 GS is a GTO. Oh well, I kind of like the fact that my car is rare. That's why I didn't get a Chevy - too many of them. I like to think of Buick as my own little secret.

1/4 mile time

By the way, great 1/4 mile time. Pretty strong for a '72 engine. My track times have been much more disappointing, but mainly because my cars were not in top shape. I am currently working on a few things on my 71, then back to the drag strip.

Question Q:

Hey my name is Benjamen and right now I own a bet up 92 Buick Regal. Right now I dont have much money but my the beginning of next year I hope to have about 7,000 and I wanted to get a really nice looking buick. Right now the only sweet Buick I can find, is a 86 Buick Grand National for 8,000. Now I was just seeing if any of you Buick fans out there could help me out. I want a older Buick not anything in the 90's. I hope to read your guys suggestions. Thank you.

Re: Q:

Can't go wrong with the mid 60s to early 70s Buick V8s. They are strong engines in quality built cars.

I dont know many Buicks from the 60's and 70's. The only two I know is the Buick GS and Buick GSX. I dont know much about the GS but I know the GSX is out of my price range. Can you give me some models I can look up?

Re: 1970 buick GSX

The GSX was just a fancy GS, built from 1970-1972. It was strictly paint and trim, all other parts were the same. The GS was based on the Skylark. Check here for more info:

http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclec...buick-gs.shtml

I hope this helps.

8K for an 86 GN could be a good deal. One thing to worry about with GNs is what you can't see. The valve body inside the transmission. It is unique to the Turbo Regals and is a high dollar piece (~$450 or so). Many times these cars were taken to transmission shops that swapped out their transmission for a regular TH200R4 with bad results. Drive the car and make sure that the shifts are crisp. It's no guarantee, but at least you may be able to uncover an expensive problem in the making.
www.gnttype.org is a good reference on these cars.

Be sure to check out the various Buick aftermarket companies like TA Performance, Kenne-Bell and Poston. That way, the people you race will get a good look at your tail lights. We've had several street driven 10 second V-8's in our club. The Buick is one great street/race engine.
