2003 Mach 1
Hi. I am looking into getting my first car (in a year). I will have around 20k to spend (1/2 mine, 1/2 my parents) and was thinking about getting a used 2003 mach 1. I see that it is a very fast car, but how does it handle? Also what performance upgrades are good for it? Thanks a lot!!

It's doubtful that a 2003 Mach 1 will sell for $20,000 any time in the next couple of years.
MSRP is about $28,500, and due to the tremendous interest in them, demand has pushed them to a second production year. Performance upgrades mainly consist of gears, drag radials, X pipe, headers, and maybe a catback or air filter. The engine has the capability of pushing the car well into the 12's with little modification. As far as handling, it's superior to the GT, which is already a more than competent handling car. The improvement in handling comes from upgraded shocks and springs. The Mustang is for some reason insulted when it comes to handling prowess, but it'll also turn. With upgraded Brembo brakes, the Mach 1 also stops better than the production GT. It's a great car, but I think you'll probably need to find more like $25,000 to get one. Just have to wait and see.

Performance upgrades. Hmm, I believe exhausts like Mac, Bassani, and Mangaflow are really good. Bassani being the most expensive but still the quality is the best. Second, get some gears with speedo cal., a Tri-Ax shifter and some DRs for hooking up.

Sorry but you're probably better off trying to buy a GT. 20 grand would just about cover the cost of a new GT, payments would be a lot easier so you can focus more money on insurance (which is going to kick your ass if its under your name, since you are young).

Actually you probably wouldn't need to swap gears in the Mach 1 It comes with 3:55's. That is the car I want to buy SOOOOOOOO bad I just don't have the cash, and by the time I do have the cash the 2005 will be out, so many choices.

True, but the 4vs just love to be revved with some owners even going as low as 4.56s on a 4v 281
