Worth it?

Ok, my g/f might be selling her car to me for prolly a grand or 2 so that she can make a downpayment on another car (im only 17, shes 18, and no one will co sign for me and they wont take her as a cosigner, so she has to go out and do it herself....) Its a 92 sentra with a GA16DE motor in it.. Its an automatic however :-( I was wondering if trying to race with an automatic is even worth it? Im looking forward to going to the dragstrips and stuff with this car in the near future if i get it, and ive heard from other people about other cars that manual is the way to go. Any input would be helpful

well with that car you should be seeing 18 sec passes in the 1/4....that's enough to beat stock auto civics and stock auto lancers, but that's about it

i like shifthing, but i know a lot of people the swear that in 1/4 auto is way to go b/c you are much better at dialing in. A guy i know has a plymoth breeze that is running low 13's and he is running a auto. if he can do that with a breeze auto than you should have fun with a sentra, if you have some money to put into it.

yes if you are doing bracket racing auto's are much more consistent and it makes it a much more competitive car, however they are still around a second slower than the manual version of the same car. So if you aren't doing bracket racing the auto is useless

I have a '92 Sentra SE with a 5-speed and a GA16DE also. My car has excellent pick up. I have beaten an auto V-6 Plymoth Breeze in the 1/4. I think a stick is the way to go, but if that car can get up there pretty quick, or you can put a lot in it, I say go for it. You also won't have to worry about stalling. Good luck and have fun!

WOW REALLY????

Any car can be a stock breeze but if you read post i said he is running low 13's in a breeze which is very impressive. What are you running in 1/4?????

I get about 15 in the 1/4. I've never timed it exactly. I'm not bragging about the Breeze either. It was just a fib on the strip. Nothing special.

FIB

Nice use of the word "FIB". I doubt that you even realized you used it, and the fact that noone outside of Wisconsin would know what it means.

that's hilarious.

sorry man you aren't hitting 15's on a 5-spd ga16 no matter how much you want it to. The classic se-r with the sr20 pulls around a 15.7 stock, your car should be in the mid 16's if not higher.
