Where's the ping?
I've driven the 6shooter for almost more than a year now and I've always been irritated by the annoying pinging that it does throughout mdoerate to heavy acceleration.
I read a ford service bulletin that a faulty pcv valve could be the problem (by allowing oil fumes up into the intakes... condensing and forming droplets in chamber) so I went and replaced the valve myself... and although the ping lowered to only certain ranges, it still can be heard. I'm thinking maybe the fuel injectors are a bit dirty so I'm trying Valvoline fuel system cleaner next time I fill her up. The easiest solution to get rid of the ping (caused by unignited fumes condensing in the chamber) is to raise octane level. I've tried this also but ping occurred (although less than on 89 or 87) even on the 91 octane levels. Ping sounds like it's coming from drivers side so I fingered the pcv valve as the culprit forever... but I don't think it's the only one causing it. Car seems to like full gas tank a lot better than even 3/4 tank. Dunno why (Tang 1 likes a full belly I guess). Any thoughts?

Re: Where's the ping?
hm, i just bought a 2000 base model with the 6, what year is yours? I dont hear any ping, but perhaps i should go listen more carefuly next time i drive... Could it be your timing?
by the way, i dont know much about my stang yet, and havent bought a Chiltons or anything for it yet. And i dont know anything about DIS... yet. So i dont know how the timing is set like that, but if its a good ol mechanical dist. then i guess check the timing? |
