Passenger Compartment Air Filter

I have a 2000 Silverado LS with 47,378 miles. I need to replace the passenger compartment air filter. Is this job pretty straight forward? or is this a dealer project? I saw in the owners manual where it is located under the dash. Any info would help! Thanks!!

filter replacement

Very simple to replace. Look under passenger dash, you will see a little plastic hatch. open hatch and this will allow you to reach up and remove both filters. When you see the price of new ones, you may want to consider blowing them out with compressed air. Remember these aren't heppa filters!

Passenger Compartment Air Filter

Shocked by the price of replacement filters, I instead went to Home Depot and purchased a washable household heating/AC system filter that you cut to size to fit your particular system.

Lay the dirty OEM filter on top of washable stuff, trace with a marker and cut out the new filter with scissors.

Way to go

I bought a household HEPA filter from Home Depot & did some creative cutting and taping... looks terrible but does the job! Total cost =$8 and 1/2 hour labor while BS-ing with my friends.
