parts for hx same as ex?
I have a 97 hx and I have been having a hard time finding performance parts for my model. I have been wondering if the parts that work on the ex models would fit on the hx models also. i.e. cold air intake, headers, supercharger...etc. thanks

Putting ANY mods on an HX engine is an absolute total waste of time and money. Get a motor swap first

screw sparq hes just an asshole to everyone. I'm with you I have an HX that im modifying. Also there is a guy "undergroundimports" or something like that who has a 14.7 1/4 mile HX. sparq what does your car run?
what im trying to say is dont let ppl like sparq try and tell you you cant modify an hx. hey, its better then a DX or LX or any other shit model. Wow an EX has 127 HP and an HX has 115 HP, big deal. Plus it still has vtec, vtec-e but vtec none the less. I probably will do an engine swap later on maybe in a couple years. But for now an HX is fine with me... you can make any car faster. As far as your question... im not completely sure but some stuff fits both EXs and HXs, like the injen intake i ordered. But i belive the header on the HX is different then others... so this is a good question id like to know also...

I'm gonna have to agree with mattyoung33. I dont think its really a bad idea to modify an HX. They do have more hp than the other models besides the ex and si. Besides my brother has a car with a v6 with an exhaust and air intake and he was beat by 2 modified civic hx's. so any info anyone has on modifying an hx i would greatly appreciate.

hey civhx - here's the low down on HXs
HX civics are almost identical bolt-up wise as the EX. Intakes for an EX will work fine. The header, however, is different, as is the exhaust system. The reason is that the catalytic converter on the EX is in the normal place, between the two axles, and that works for them. The HX, however, is the highway edition of the civic, and theirfore honda, in its infinite wisdom, thought it would be good for a highway edition civic to have an engine that warms up really fast. And as such, they decided to put the catconv directly underneath the block. Good if you want to get your engine warm fast, bad if you want to mod your car. (well, if no other trims are like that anyway). So everything, basically, will bolt up direct if it works for an EX, except stuff on the exhaust side of the block. Your best bet, if you ask me, is to just get a custom exhaust made - it won't be much more expensive, and you can do a lot of fun stuff with it. But make sure that when you do, you have them make it so it bolts up to an EX header. Or you can just buy stuff for an HX (yes they exist). Anything else? |

so basicly the intakes for ex and hx are the same but i cant buy headers or exhaust for an hx that is designed for an ex? would the ex exhaust and headers work if i just took the cat converter off completely?
oh and where are some good places to find hx parts? i've been having a hell of a hard time. thanks

if you want a cat-back exhaust system Thermal is what I have on mine. I reccomend it alot! Yes they make them to fit the HX specifically...

I know i asked this before but i'm getting ready to order a cold air intake for my car off ebay and i can get one for about $35 if i order one thats for an ex but i have an hx and i just want to know if anyone knows for sure that it'll work on an hx also even though it doesnt say that it will. i could save a lot of money buying one for an ex model instead and i dont have a lot of money to throw around.
here is an example of one i'm looking at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=38634

civ - i guarantee you that if it really will work for the ex, it'll work for the hx as well. The chassis and engine bay are formed the same, the engine block is the same D series, and the intake manifold is the same an in the same place. It'll work. =)

I may be wrong, but I don't think HX engines have Vtec. I bought one for $170 to replace my blown DX (needed a motor asap, no second car) and there's no vtec solenoid next to the distributor. What's this vtec-e you're talking about? I've never heard of it... |

it has vtech it just works differently. it has 16 valves but only uses 8 up until about 2,500 rpms or so i think then it switches to 16. i can only feel the difference when its just me in the car and possibly someone else.

i'm not really planning on dumping a lot of money into my car. i'm just going to modify when i get money and only go as far as intake, headers and exhaust. i dont really have the tools or know how to do a swap or the cash. so for now its stay as a stock engine. later on i might try to swap in a prelude motor but right now i'm trying to pay my way through college.

I hear ya on the college deal, it sucks sometimes. Get an intake first, you'll be happiest with that because imo it sounds better than a fart pipe and adds the most power of the three.. oh yeah and costs less too
